It severely annoys me when I'm traveling on minecart, just humming along, when suddenly I hit a creeper on the line, and I get blown up, along with hours of my hard work. WHY?! This is why I've come up with the idea of minecart damage, receiving damage for being hit by a minecart.
It's not too major, and no, you will not be killed for getting nudged with a minecart. Wearing armor also decreases the amount of damage you take from minecarts. The amount of damage taken depends on how fast the minecart is going, the angle it's going at (up or down), and how long it's been traveling.
For example, a minecart nudged uphill a bit won't do anything to you, but a minecart that's been going for 2km at top speed, then drops over a cliff could probably kill the poor soul standing at the bottom even if they were wearing god-tier diamond armor. A minecart crash would spell death, being realistic as car accidents are a top cause of death in the modern world.
The formula for minecart damage is that for every block a minecart has been traveling, 1% of a heart (2% of a heart point) is taken. If it's uphill, it's 0.5% of a heart per block, if it's downhill at an angle it will be 10% of a heart, and if straight down it will be 30% of a heart. If a minecart's going full speed, it inflicts 10 hearts of damage, and if it's going 20% of full speed, it inflicts 2 hearts, and so on. The distance damage stops after 2 km, and of course speed damage ends after full speed. Hitting a mob will slow your minecart down, but not stop it and send it backwards.
Some support please?

95% of teens would scream if Justin Beiber was about to jump of the top of the Empire State Building. If you are in the 5% that would grab a seat and some popcorn and yell JUMP! JUMP! JUMP! post this into your sig.
I like the idea (has been suggested before btw), but it shouldn't get a damage boost for the time or distance it has been moving. The obvious reason for that is Minecart Boosters. It is easy to make infinitely looping tracks that would turn any Minecart into an unstoppable death machine. Just speed and angle should be enough.
