I think that Mojang should release a downloadable version of Minecraft before Beta 1.8. I loved Minecraft back then, and I still do now, but I think some of us miss the old Minecraft and would like to have the chance to play it again. It would be a blast from the past to the old players and it will give a chance for new players to experience how Minecraft was like back then.
Keep in mind that I'm not saying to completely change Minecraft to the old version, just make a version that we can download from the website that's set in Beta 1.7.3 or any other versions (before 1.8).
If this idea was possible, what Minecraft version should it be set in? It has to be in Beta though and before 1.8.
Already exists, if I'm correct MCnostalgia is still up and running, otherwise there are plenty of other 3rd party programs to reset your minecraft to even Indef.
No support, and just because it's already possible, no need for Mojang to implement it.
Thank you for this information.
I'm dropping this suggestion then.
What was it, I had it bookmarked but hadn't tried it out yet... http://assets.minecr...e/minecraft.jar
I found this link on a very old thread. Replacing the version_of_file with the version you want will be a link to that jar. Copy-paste that into the new launcher (pretty simple, create a folder, edit the JSON file, and add a JSON file to the folder). It might still work, I'm not sure. Like I said, I found this on a very old thread and never tested it. But it is from minecraft.net so it's definitely safe.
