In peacful mode, currently none of the usually common mob drops are obtainable (or have tedious ways to obtain).
So I propose that in peaceful, usually-hostile mobs should spawn, but more or less act like zombie pigmen or wolves, attacking one mob makes all the others in a 16 block radius attack too, along with the first one that you hit. Other hostiles who see the player being attacked join in.
It's simple, and makes night time less deserted, makes it possible or much easier to get mob drops.
List of mobs-
Zombie (plus pig and villager variants)
Skeleton (plus wither variant)
Creeper
Spider (plus cave variant)
Silverfish
Slimes (and Magma Cubes)
Blazes
Ghasts (are alerted from a much larger distance)
Endermen
Witches

I agree with Ram9bo. The fact that you can't get certain items from hostiles balances the difficulty and encourages you to at least change it to easy difficulty. If this would ever happen, I would make it so that hostile mobs attack you once you hit them.
Sorry, no real support.

Some people are like slinkies; not good for much, but fun to push down stairs.
Cryogonal: the Pokemon that makes you say, "What the heck am I looking at?"
Ah no, I disagree, even though peaceful is a difficulty, it should be balanced, and this (in my opinion) would make the game too easy, even for peaceful.

You do have a pretty good point there. Is there any way it would be less easy, like if the mobs were neutral (if they are hostile)?
You do realise that you can just hit escape and change to easy for a few seconds, kill some mobs and then change back to peaceful.
I do realise, I'm not stupid. That's what I do.
I'm not suggesting something because I'm crappy at the game. I'm suggesting because it's less of a hassle and I like having mobs around while not being attacked.

Well, like bossrunner said, it would be more balanced if the mobs were just aggressive once you hit them (like wolves).
But still, it would only be more balanced, but still a little too imbalanced for me. However, I don't see how your suggestion should be implemented otherwise, so...
I'm going to give you 50% (0,5) support, for trying to solve a problem and accepting criticism
Since nobody likes it right now, I'm changing it to have it like zombie pigmen's AI.
No support. Some people like to play peaceful without having the mobs around.
What's so bad about the mobs? It's more or less like having a bunch of non-tamable wolves around.

If this was to be added, it should be an entirely new gamemode, not an upgrade to peaceful mode, so then people that want to play without hostiles can play without hostiles, and people that zombie pigman ai- hostiles can play with that.

Isn't that why they wont attack unless provoked?
Yes, i agree. No support.
