Yo everyone. Just wanted to present an idea that I know would change Minecraft for the better, but I am not sure if it is possible.
The idea is that Mojang would add a plain block to the game. No ID, plain white texture, no name. They would add a system to the game that allows us to name, color, texture, completely customize the block in-game. Then, once the block is created, it is added to our personal game's ID list.
Just an idea. Please give feedback.

It's feasible, but it would be highly limited at best.
You wouldn't be able to add any "new" features, and most advances blocks like Pistons/Redstone machinery would be right out.
I could see some use in letting mapmakers create new blocks for the purpose of decorating their words. Currently, you're limited to a fixed number of blocks that can be retextured. Increasing this number would be handy for extensively detailed worlds.
I doubt that is possible or at least unless mojang completely rewrites the code for minecraft. Sorry but not really possible, still the possibility of texture packs for adventure map custom blocks. No Support.
No support beacause you think it's not possible. What if it was? Wow. Fail.
If you want a response, quote me.

Yes. Yes I do.
Glad to see some feedback on it. I thought it'd be difficult to code if possible... But you have to admit, it'd be an amazing addition to Minecraft. If you need a block with a particular look or name, you could do it with ease. Unlimited possibilites when building, literally.
I wouldn't think a simple block with a custom texture would be hard at all. For example, add 10-15 textureless blocks. Have no default texture for them, and just have a texture pack add one. Or even have it pick textures out of a URL in a world file. For example, a simple textures.txt file in the World folder.

That is a good idea as well, and probably more possible than my idea, or at least easier to do. Add a few plain blocks, that could be turned into anything through texturing.
I remember a "Create your own block/item mod" backa while ago... and all the ensuing spam in the mods forum with people posting their "AWESOME PLATINOOM MOD LOLZORZ"
I'm assuming that if my idea is even possible, it would take alot of coding and recoding. But even so, it would be an amazing addition to the game. If you need orange grass for an autumn type build, use the in-game feature, get the grass block, texture each side up, get the orange grass, name it Autumn Grass. If you need a specific plant for a build that doesn't exist in-game, you can texture it. Any block of any size within full block size could be created, colored, textured, named.
The only problem I see after coding, if the idea is possible, is on multiplayer. I thought about this a little though. On Multiplayer creative, only Server Ops (or if using plguins) higher ranks would be able to use the feature. The feature would be set on or off in the options menu for Singleplayer and on Multiplayer the server op could change it. This avoids any people who don't need access to the block creator making a large amount of blocks and filling up the server game's block ID limit (which I believe is somewhere in the 4000's). It also could let certain servers have certain blocks for their buildings.
Texture packs would b a big problem too. The way I thought of this idea working with texture packs was the game would recognize what resolution texture pack you are using, so when you get into the in-game texturer, the area of the screen for texturing changes pixel size according to resolution. If you create a block using 32x32, then switch to 16x16, the game would simply lower the quality of the block's texture, and when you get back to 32x32, it would go back up to that pixel size. However, I have no clue how this'd work if you made the block with something like 16x16 then went UP to 32x32. Maybe you would have to make separate res textures for the same block, not sure.
Again, this is an idea to mess with. I'm not sure how to catch Mojang's attention of this idea, and I know they are probably constantly backed up with messages and ideas and junk, but I'd like to see their views on this, and if it can be possible.
I don't see why we need this? It's also quite a vague idea. How would this work? What functions could it have? Please think through your ideas before posting.

We would need this to get any block imaginable of any proportion within the full block size of any color and texture into your game in Vanilla. It is very vague, because it is the basis of the idea, that I was hoping would get more added upon by people reading the topic.

Curse PremiumIt was extremely limited and hardly useful.
