With the addition of Carpets as a thinner variant to Wool. I think a Tile blocks similar to Carpet made from Stained Clay would also be useful in builds such as kitchens or having a stone patio in your garden.
These blocks Tile Blocks would be crafted in a similar way to carpet but using two of the same Stained Clay. (Obviously)
These blocks should retain the same properties of carpet, with the exception that they can be placed freely in air unlike carpets, which requires a block under them. (But if this is not possible, it would be fine for them to retain all the properties of Carpet)
Why do you think these should be added? I believe carpets were added so that you could have a nice-looking floor without the sacrifices of having actual wool (fire and explosions), so it doesn't really make sense to me to have tiles for a block with none of those drawbacks. You could just put the stained clay in as the floor.
Is there some other reason I missed? Please tell me if there is.

Good first post, by the way.
Thanks, and to future grow on the concept. Decoration has always been a big part of Minecraft, such as logs being able to be placed on their sides to create different patters or the different variants of sandstone. While these things don't directly change the block they create new ways of designs your builds. Which is where Clay Tiles can fit in, such as be used them to create a "presserplate table without the gaps, helping with most modern designed houses in Minecraft by giving a thin uper boarder where carpets don't make much sense and ect.
I see, thank you for pointing that out. If they had the same mechanics as carpets, then I still don't see their usefulness, but if they didn't, then I could see why you might want them. I remain unconvinced, however, about their building value; would you be willing to give me some more examples?
It sounds like a pretty good idea, but I'm a little torn. For certain projects, I would also like to have hardened clay as slabs and stairs. Tiles do sound cool, but since then it almost sounds like too much. Though, I suppose that the ideas wouldn't be mutually exclusive.
While unsure of other design I can create with tiles, i'm sure that other people can create more things with it.
Now to expand on one of the counter arguments you made on "I believe carpets were added so that you could have a nice-looking floor without the sacrifices of having actual wool (fire and explosions)."
Since this is still a snapshot and Minecraft does have some sense of realism. Wool Carpets burning is still a possibility and Tiles wouldn't burn since, clay doesn't burn to a extent.

True, but your actual floor (beneath the carpeting) wouldn't burn, which is the main thing.
Anyway, I've said all I really have to say, so I shall be on my way. I wish you good fortune in your future Minecraft Forums posts.

It's not there to give non-wool with a wool look. In fact, I don't think most people would mind if it had the exact same properties as wool (Low blast resistance, flammability) It's there so you can make the ceiling of your first floor different from the floor of your second floor without making it two blocks thick.
I like the idea a lot, but I would rather see hardened clay slabs and stairs before anything else. It would be very cool to have a tiled kitchen floor though. I'd actually like to see a lot more simple decorative elements added in (nothing too fancy or complex, so it still fits in aesthetically with the rest of the game).
