Currently, block breaking is a bit drab and dull. I propose that block breaking 'fluctuates' so that it is slightly more random. For example, a dirt block may take exactly 3 seconds to mine on the first try, the second is 2 seconds and 10 milliseconds and the next 3.5 seconds.
It wouldn't alter mining that much and would help to reduce 'walk and mine' tactics. Perhaps a 1-2 second fluctuation would be enough.
It would be a simple little change but help the atmosphere just that little bit.
Making block breaking more random isn't going to make it less dull. Most of the time people won't even notice it.
And when people do notice it, it would just be plain frustrating. Having random block breaking times would break spleef and other games and maps that use block breaking. Imagine nearly cornering someone and having them take off because it took 2 seconds to dig out the block of snow.
