When desert villages were first introduced, I sincerely hoped that they were just a placeholder until some actual deserty buildings could be designed. They look super ugly and blend in with the terrain.
Now that we have Hardened Clay blocks, and Colored ones too, can we get some new designs for desert village houses? Ones that incorporate the clay, sandstone, and regular stone?
Additionally, can we lose the slanted roofs on houses in desert villages? Slanted roofs in real life are designed to keep off the rain, which is not a problem in the desert. In fact, it adds more surface area to the roof, which causes it to heat up faster. Flat roofs for desert homes, please!
(Additionally, removing the slanted roofs removes one of the major problems with desert villages not standing out enough, namely, large chunks of sandstone over much of the village.)
One last quick change I would make to villages. in general. Certain house types spawn with a fenced off backyard of dirt. This spawns as dirt, so coming across a new regular village means the surrounding grass hasn't had time to spread to the blocks, and you get this backyard of dirt. It's even worse in deserts, with no grass to spread onto this dirt. In normal villages, please make these blocks grass, while in desert villages, please make them sand.
In terms of aesthetics, sandstone works a lot better than hardened clay.
Here's a basic sandstone house, very basic. Sandstone blends well with sand because they are the same hue.
Here's all current colors of hardened clay.
Regular hardened clay and orange hardened clay are the least offensive, but they're still better used as adobe, not as a house. Sandstone is perfectly fine for deserts.
Slanted roofs may be designed as such in part, but does that look much better aesthetically?
Yes, yes they do.

My point though, is that from any sort of distance, desert villages blend in, not only with the terrain around them, but with themselves.
This isn't a problem for normal villages. They have logs, planks, and cobblestone breaking them up. The different types of sandstone, however, are not differentiated enough to visually separate the village from a distance. It just looks like sandy blobs. Adding in the clay provides this distinction, not only from the landscape, but also provides visual breakup at a distance, so the entire village isn't one color.
Additionally, just taking one house exactly and replacing it entirely with Hardened Clay was not what I was thinking. I was suggesting more along the lines of using it as highlights and decorations. Alternatively, they could be made entirely out of Hardened Clay with the sandstone being highlights.
As for roofs, simply shearing off the roof was not what I had in mind. Crenelations or fences along the top would go a long ways towards breaking up the dullness of just a box. Additionally, wool canopies over doors and windows, and wool canopy shade structures on roofs would go a long, long way towards making it look like an actual village in the desert, not a normal village that has been dyed tan.
Look at those pictures. Except for details, which the OP is correct about, hardened clay is horrible for most building materials. I mainly use it for roads and adobe, just details.

I want to say that the desert village will get changed, but it obviously won't happen. For example, everyone thought that the Two stone Slabs in the Blacksmith from the Villages would be a slightly damaged or very damaged Anvil, but it didn't happen.

That's really a matter of opinion, isn't it?
Fit a lot better than the current ones.
