Another gamerule. To use it, type /gamerule playerGriefing. At the end type "true" or "false". This will determine whether or not players may break, place blocks, put or drop something in or out of a bucket, till dirt and everything else.
I know you can prevent griefing in Adv. mode but that is not the point. I first thought of this as a "spectate" feature. The easiest way to do that would be to set the player into creative mode and have the command on false. That way, they can view the game without breaking the arena.
I can't really explain any further. The rest is most likely self-explanatory. I prefer you answer the poll. That way I can get a clean count of the supporters.
Wouldn't it be easier to just add a flight option for adventure mode? Not trying to be rude, but for the spectating purposes, instead of going through all the hassle to stop blocks being taken from menus and prevent destruction and interaction, why not just add flight to a mode that already has the other requirements you've set for a spectator mode?

I have to agree with this in a way. The OP is a decent idea, but something like /flight <player> <true/false> would be usable in Survival as well. That would be useful for some servers and some instances in Survival. I know you can just swap to Creative for Single Player Survival but there are instances when you would want to fly but not have access to the Creative inventory.

In adventure mode, you are allowed to break some blocks. So no.
