This is a simple idea that I've been thinking about for traps and such. It's rotten wood. When you step on it a certain number of times, it breaks, causing someone to fall down to whatever there is below. It can be used as a defense mechanism against unwanted visitors like zombies or other players or to guard a chest that has valuables inside. It would be crafted like so:
XWX
PPP
PPP
X= Blank
W= Water Bucket
P= Wood Planks
The recipe above will yeild 6 rotten wood and return the bucket. It would be a good non-redstone trap for those who do not like redstone circuitry.

Maybe something more common, like crumbling cobblestone? Makes me think of the old gameboy Zelda games.
As for the concept, I'm definitely a fan of pitfall traps, but I think that this "all-in-one" trap really devalues the skill needed and satisfaction gained from wiring up a redstone trap.
The recipe is a bit overpowered, too; compared to a normal redstone trap, all you need is some iron, rather than digging around for ages trying to get enough redstone and pistons to make a functional pitfall.
If you wanted to make this into a mod yourself, you should change the recipe to use Wood, not Wooden Planks
I actually like this idea but i agree that it should be wood not wooden planks, and also i think the texture should be altered from original wood just slightly kind of like the trapped chest, and it should have a weaker blast resistance, also it should spawn naturally in the large trees that have branches.
I think that this idea is a good start to something that Mojang should add to the game. I don't necessarily think that 'rotten wood' is what should be added (although I can see it being implemented) I think that this is a good start. I do like the idea of how you step on it a certain number of times that it will break. If this were to be implemented than I think it should have a way to edit how many times you need to walk on it for it to break. I also think that the texture should differ from regular wood (if it does, than it should be a small change). But I do like this idea, and I can see this being used for adventure maps, for sure. what if rotten trees existed too??? maybe when a tree is too close to tons of water it becomes rotten and when you chop it it disintegrates. This could give a more alive feel to the game. Also like the idea of this but rotten wood not planks other wise... SUPPORT
Not so-bad idea cause i find it useful for traps, and maybe it's texture is a "Cracked" wood.

Leafeon used Magical Leaf!
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers what the Universe is for, it will be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
I like this idea because I find the amount of time it takes to wire up a simple redstone trap is ridiculous. But, how about instead of the block breaking, what if it starts to obey gravity like gravel and sand does.
