So we all know that the current potions have a data value assigned to them. These values determine the effects of the potion, if its drinkable or throwable.
When you use something to edit the NBT of items to add more effects on a potion, the DV changes. The DV can be edited as well, however it is not stored. As of right now you cannot make a command block spawn custom potions (potions with more than one effect).
I am suggesting a way that the custom data values for the potions can be stored somehow in the map, or one way or another. I am sure that I am not the only one who would like to send specialized potions via command blocks.
I am not sure how or why it would seem unnecessary. You can be anywhere and have a command block give you a special potion or 'power up' without needing to go to a merchant in an custom adv map etc etc. Using a dropper you would have to be there. Spawners would allow everyone, rather than targeted players to get specific items based on scores etc. Lastly giving someone a /effect isn't the same as using a potion, when you may need it combat etc.
Think of it as an ability or power up you could give someone if the block is hooked up to a clock.
The game is about about creativity, this has plenty of applications and would be used in plenty of custom maps.
Keep this suggestion 'alive'. With the upcoming attribute system, the possibilities for making your own mmo servers, or dungeon crawl games more unique and specialized are endless.
If they could make custom potions have unique/ random IDs once created and could be imported into a command block where it could then remotely be sent to players could only open up the options for people creating specialized scenarios in minecraft builds. These two things would be paired very well together.
