Does anyone remember playing mother load?
If you do and you went deep enough you'd remember that their were random hazardous pockets of Natural Gas that would blow up if mined.
Adding blocks that would explode if mined would add the the dangers of minecraft's depths.
These blocks would have the explosive force of TnT, and you would be able to tell if they were explosive blocks just like a silverfish block takes longer to mine.
My only concern is that if these blocks were added they might make TNT blocks less unique... Unless they can't be obtained via mining in any way (in which case, the idea is splendid). Might I offer a suggestion to change the idea? Make the blast less powerful than TNT, but have them spawn in veins like every other ore.
It might be nice for them to have some sort of visual cue also, but a subtle one - like the difference between chests and trapped chests.
I have an idea for maybe one that will be less random.
It could be found near or along natural lava pools underground. They would be black looking blocks with lava veins inside (Look like a fire charge in block form really). Mining this without silk touch would cause it to blow up but with less explosive force than TNT.
Maybe you could fire an arrow at the block (fully pulled back/drawn) to blow it up at a safe distance?

Why would you want lava blocks that explode? Lava doesn't really explode. And fire charges must be crafted (they aren't natural). It is reasonable, though, for the minecraft universe to feature naturally-occurring explosive minerals underground.
I agree that they should be near lava level, but not defined by a seperate texture or spawned only by lava pools. I think the explosion should be similar in size to a ghasts fireball, but without fire, so it doesn't destroy stone, and it only explodes if light from a torch or fire falls on it with a certain light strength, due to it being "lit" by the flame.

The blocks themselves really are not lava and I chose for them to LOOK like fire charges but not actually be them. I just thought fire charges look rather volatile.
That is just my idea. Its really up to the author to come up with some examples.
