I don't have a lot of time to type this so I'll get right down to it. These are the things I would like to see in the final version of the new Launcher. Because it all relates to the new launcher, I wouldn't consider it a wishlist. Some ideas, like the skin editor, have been suggested before. But this is my take, and I went so far as to include images and my own ideas. I'll clean this up when I get some time but it will be comprehensible and understandable for now.
Basic Changes
Here is a mockup of my changes to the default look. Ignore the new buttons next to Close, Minimize, and Maximize, they are from a program called UltraMon.
Changes:
"Update Notes" tab changed to "News"
Development Console and Local Version Editor tabs are removed. Local Version Editor would return when it is finished
New tab for Skin Editor (only available after you sign in)
Better Version Selection
Status now shows if it is not installed, if it is a Clean (unmodded) install, or if it is a modded install of that version
Ability to reset a version to it's Clean state (Basically the old Force Update)
Patch Notes for selected version (possibly able to add list of installed mods here in the future)
Link to full patch notes (opens a small window that lists all changes for that version, possibly listing mods installed in the future)
Skin Server Status now shown (for Skin Editor mainly)
Edit Skin Button added (opens the Skin Editor tab)
Account Button added
Choose Cape (Cape owners only)
Change Password
Change Display Name (possible future addition, hinted by Marc)
In addition to these features, there is a new Skin Editor tab (must be logged in to use)
Features:
Skin Tools
Reset Skin - Resets Skin to whatever is on the Skin Server (reverts any unsaved changes)
Default Skin - Changes the skin to the default "Steve" skin (doesn't save change)
Backup Skin - Creates a skin - <date/time>.png file in the new Skins folder (in your default install directory) of the current skin
Import Skin (Not Net Implemented) - Allows you to open any skin file in the Skins folder mentioned above. Good for changing skins quickly
Skin Editor and Viewer
Allows you to preview the skin as a 3d model in real time
Select various views to edit a specific section
Pen Size and RGB Color Chooser (Not Yet Implemented) - Allows you to edit the skin (didn't have time to add this, will edit in later)
Confirm to upload to the Minecraft Skin Server
I think that is about it for now. Anyone have other features they would like to see? Changes they want to suggest?

Oh man - Badprenup, your posts are always so heady and detailed, I really appreciate the work you put into this.
As for the launcher itself, it's clean and comprehensive. I'm trying to think of more features that one would want to access from the launcher, but I can't really. I mean, aside from mod stuff, but Mojang says that stuff's coming later.

Very nice.
Why thank you. I try to put as much info as I can, plus I always like an opportunity to make something in Photoshop. Things I plan to do are move cape selection to the Skin Editor, add some quick links to minecraft.net, these forums, and your default install folder (navigating to Appdata every time you need a screenshot can suck).

Ooooh, adding links to the minecraft forums would really encourage a heightened sense of community. I mean, we'd have to endure n00bs, but forums are kind of about finding the diamonds in the rough and/or people learning how to be productive forum members.
The only thing I really /don't/ want to see in the launcher is advertising.
Really good even though you say the post is not done yet.
Support!
I can imagne the part you added would prbably be more Minecraft-ish, but what you added look really good and useful.
Also is there a possibillity of adding status of minecraft.net, or i is it included in the login and such?

I figure most launchers for games have some kind of link to the official forums, and noobs are just people who haven't had the opportunity to learn from the community. As annoying as they can be, its important to teach and nurture each other.
All that hippie BS aside, I agree that it should be ad free, not that I think it ever would contain ads lol.

Update: Moved Cape Selection to the Skin Editor, quick links added. Can't update the pics for some reason, I will do it tomorrow.
