Alright I know what you're thinking, "This is just another person who wants to know all about the legendary Herobrine." Wrong". One day with nothing to do I decided to look up Minecraft "horror" videos and happened to stumble upon the thing that I was most afraid of when I started playing, but that I had buried in my mind. That was of course Herobrine. Now after watching a bunch of vids, playing the mods, and reminiscing on the olden days of early Minecraft, I now realize how much I miss this constant lurking fear.
So don't get me wrong, there are plenty of shocking and jumpy moments in Minecraft (let's not forget our green friends after all), but I feel (key component there) that it has been lacking that ever omnipresent anticipation that was there when Herobrine was "supposedly" in the game. On that matter I'm somewhat in between whether he was or wasn't. But that aside, I truly think that adding something that was like that figure that I was petrified to see in the fog, it would add a whole new level to Minecraft.
Now many will say, "What about Endermen?" And to that I say this; When we first heard of them, saw a few modded teaser trailers, and stalked their progress on the Wiki, they were terrifying. But now, after playing with them, we can see that they are simply another mob. Yes their new noises very closely resemble Slender, and yes they teleport, but they never added that "being watched" feeling. And that is exactly what I miss. The "presence" of Herobrine made you feel as if you were insignificant in the Minecraft world (which you are, think about it) and that every move you made was calculated and recorded by an evil being. And that was scary.
All I want is, and I fully understand if Mojang does not want to, but all I want is to have what all of those "screenshots" showed us. A man standing in the fog, behind a tree, or on the opposite hill. I am NOT asking for the Herobrine from the mods (the destructive killer one), or anything like Israphel from the Yogbox, but simply the Steve with no pupils watching you.
I should probably stop talking now, but I just wanted to put this out there. Don't worry I know there are already probably a million posts that relate to this but it has been nagging me for a while now. Thank you much for reading, and talk about it below.
If you know there are other posts out there, contribute to them, don't make a completely new post.
This would need to completely alter the feel of the game. Minecraft isn't about living under an all-seeing eye, it's about collecting stuff and deciding you want to build some ridiculous thing or the desire to mine all the blocks or inhabit all the biomes or fish all the fish kill all the dragons or whatever it is that you want to do. To invoke the mood you seem to want from this game would require something like a story, which is something Minecraft needs to stay far away from. Leave that to adventure maps.
You mentioned how he wouldn't be a "destructive killer one," so what's the point? It's just a statue that appears behind trees? That doesn't even add anything to the game. You also mentioned that the endermen was met with great anticipation, but is now "just another mob." Do you predict that your proposed Herobrine would be any different? It would quickly become the "just another mob" that everything will. Horses, although ridable, will become simply another ordinary part of Minecraft life, just as an occasional jungle temple or desert temple are now.
And lastly, Herobrine will not be added simply because of all the lore and tradition and demand by first-time posters surrounding him. If anything of this nature joins the game, it is likely to be a completely original idea.
Despite all that, I credit you for paying attention to spelling and grammar and even detail, you're ahead of many first or even fifth-time posters. I hope you continue to use and contribute to the forums.

I would have loved Herobrine being incorporated into the game within the manner of which he's portrayed in games. A character with the best AI, who stalks the player periodically. With the Far Lands being removed, if they ever brought Herobrine into the game...I believe that they should bring the Far Lands back as a temporary alteration to a chunk upon loading...
What I mean by this is that when you enter a chunk, it has a X% chance to twist into a Far Lands variant...and when you leave the chunk...it reverts back. This is where Herobrine should be encountered most, when you slip into this alternate landscape on extremely rare occasions. Bring back an interesting facet of Minecraft and hybridize it with a fanmade concept to form a very eerie possibility.
However,
Unless you are bringing something new to the table and a very detailed post involving the very intricate facets of a well fleshed out concept, they're going to close this thread due to the sheer volume of Herobrine threads...and just how many flames they normally get because people are tired of hearing, "Add Herobrine". Many no longer want him in the game just because of how many "Add Herobrine" threads popped up.

Sad, but true.
It would bring more people into the game for the mystery.
