Alright, I searched around, and I haven't seen anything like this on the forums.
Have you ever wanted to look at a door in your base, or better yet multiple doors in the same corridor, and wanted to be reminded of exactly what you will be walking into? I personally have a large-ish underground bunker with multiple branching rooms from a few main passageways.
My idea is the Labeled Door. It's simple enough, crafted with either a Wooden Door and a Sign or an Iron Door and a Gold Ingot. The Wooden Labeled Door would have no "window" or transparent area in the upper block, but intead, a one line wooden plaque. The Iron Labeled Door would be much the same, except a Gold Plaque.
When you place said Door, a GUI will appear exactly like it would with a Sign, except only a single or double line of text available for quick navigation.

Well, the sign takes up a full block that could be used for something more useful, like a torch. The Labeled Door would take up only the space of the door itself. In a 1x1 or even a 3x3 corridor, efficient torch placement is kinda key, and if you have regularly placed doors and rooms that interfere with torch placement, the OCD in some people, like myself, goes wacko.

That's true that there are more useful things for gold, but not that much. Powered Rails, Golden Apples, and Clocks are pretty much the only things I can think of right off hand. And Iron Doors are more expensive because they are better than wooden doors, naturally. I guess the Gold plate would be for more of a decorative purpose than anything.
