A locked door would have the same texture as a regular iron door and would require a key to get in. To bind the key to that door would work by crafting the locked door (the crafting recipe would be a door with a trip wire hook) and you would craft the key (the crafting recipe would be a tripwire hook in the middle with two iron ingots one above the tripwire hook and one below it). Once you have crafted both of those you would place the locked door down, and you would right click with the key to bind the key to that door only. Only that key that you binded would be able to open that specific door. The door would only be breakable by you and breakable in creative mode by everyone. The door would add protection to your house and frankly would be very neat to add to the game.
Well to fix the breaking in part, if you were on a server with grief protection then you would be safe. It would also be good for reasons such as friends not being able to get in (that is if they don't break in sadly). I understand it has its flaws but I still think that it would be a good addition to the game. I appreciate your honest feedback though.
What if a griefer decides to start locking up things that don't belong to them?
I don't consider griefing potential a terribly valid criticism (anything can be griefer material if they're dedicated) but it's something to consider...

The door only breakable by whoever placed it? Okay...How about the wall? Ceiling? Floor? What if they blast it down with TNT or something?
Actually useful locks are rendered nigh-impossible due to the nature of the game, I'm afraid.
