You put the string on corner, clock on top. Put the leather on left, right and bottom square of crafting grid.
Once you craft it, right-click while holding watch! It will be removed from your inventory and clock appears on HUD, with numbers, showing either AM or PM. Watch is kept even on death, so you never have to craft one again.
Why carry a clock that uses 1 inventory space when you can wear a watch, knowing the time of day, all the time? This will save 1 inventory space.
As many have said before, a watch seems a bit unnecessary considering the current clock functions as a pocket watch, in a sense. And, like many others have said, it doesn't take much space on your hotbar to put a clock.

GENERATION 27: When you see this put it in your signature and add 1 to the generation
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers what the Universe is for, it will be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
I could see this being useful on trips where you carry a lot of stuff, but not enough to really justify adding it. Now if you made it into a belt that had a Watch, a Compass, and a possible third thing like an Altimeter to see height/depth, and it had to be worn on the chest slot, then I would want it.

People who are saying to use a watch don't understand the benifits of the watch. It can be seen in the HUD when right clicked. What if you are in a cave.
I'll support being able to do this with a clock, though the HUD items should be lost on death (think of DayZ, you dont keep your map and map accessories and such after death)
Pocketwatches sound cool but in practice, are simply useless. Clocks fill this function already. Now, if clocks must be placed and pocketwatches right clicked...

If it was a belt, wouldn't it be put in the leggings spot?

Ever hear of something called running away? Its like running towards them, but without the confrontation and death.
Interesting, but this would make clocks mostly redundant on their own, because leather is fairly easy to get. Unless watches only show the time when you've equipped them, in which case clocks could still be used to look cool on your wall...
Just put a clock in the last slot of your inventory, then bam. A watch. It takes as much space as a watch does, and does the exact same thing.
No support.
But, if you have some kind of utility belt suggestion, which has a ton of tools to put on it, then maybe I'll support.

It kinda makes minecraft easier. Watches are only just about as cheap as clocks, and clocks are called watches in a different English variation language.
I do like the indea, but id say it should be like rei's minimap, so its on the side of the screen, also, i'd say that for it to work, you should just put into your inventory, not the hotbar...
To craft, you need 1 clock, 3 leather, 4 strings.

Just build the darn thing already!
