I've got errands to run today, so I think I'll make this one shorter than usual.
Reading these forums through again, I've noticed that suggestions to be able to cook Rotten Flesh to remove the food poisoning effects have been suggested many times before. But what about the other hostile mob food drop? From what I've read, Spider Eyes give you guaranteed poisoning when you eat them, but most "bugs" are edible and eaten throughout the world, even in some civilized locales.
So for future updates, I think I'd like to be able to cook Spider Eyes in a furnace. Two sticks should be enough to cook one of those things, like a Raw Fish. I don't see a need to change the hunger restoration and saturation (2 food units and 3.2 saturation), the only differences would be that the sprite is a lighter shade of red and, more importantly, you won't get poisoning from eating a Cooked Spider Eye. I honestly don't know if it'll make you want to voluntarily kill spiders more often, but if anything, at least you'll have a use for all the Spider Eyes you've collected out of self-defense that doesn't involve a brewing stand or poisoning yourself.
Spider eye actually is the highest-saturation food along with porkchops and steak. This would allow it to become a possible food option.
Supports.
I disagree, as bugs may be edible, not spiders. Eating the eye of a spider is unhealthy and may cause relevantly health problems. And by the way, you have to take in that these are minecraft 'huge' spiders. They have a good use already anyway. Cooking spider eyes is like saying cooking rotten flesh.

Besides, as far as I'm aware, only the fangs are venomous. Not that there needs to be any health-effect alterations for raw Spider Eyes, of course, but at the very least, I think that as a last resort it would be good to have something to eat that DOESN'T make you sick. Now, Rotten Flesh I can understand, and while I would like for it to be cookable as well, I'd prefer to watch the debate over that topic instead of actively participating in it as there's no way I can win, given my standing on the subject.
I have to agree that Spider Eyes are pretty underrated as a food item, everyone just kills spiders for string. At the same time, though, I think a cooked spider eye could save your life if you're just starting out and all you've got is a furnace and a sword, since the food poisoning caused by Rotten Flesh could prevent the hunger meter from filling up enough for regeneration, and the poisoning caused by Spider Eyes at this time would reduce your health enough for other monsters to finish you off more easily. So Cooked Spider Eyes would make a good "emergency food" until you manage to start a farm and/or find a less hazardous meat source (chicken, pork, etc.).
