I thought this might be a good idea. Many times we focus on combination locks and things of that nature to secure things. What if we made it so that a torch could be crafted with the addition of any dye to produce a faintly (in order to prevent overuse) glowing torch of that color. This torch may be useful for colored lighting, which people may like, but primarily it would be used for activating special NFC Blocks (think Google Wallet) which would activate when drawing near, revealing hidden doors only to those with the correct color torch. This would allow for more secretive hidden entrances and bases as well as exclusive access to various bank accounts and the like. It would also enable more complicated redstone builds, which could open the door to new and exciting Minecraft creations. The possibilities are endless: new adventure maps, puzzles, hidden worlds, multiplayer games etc). What do you think?
Hmmm...I like the idea, it just needs a little bit of touching up. Use the stuff that Coga19000 said, as well as saying how the block will be connected to the torch, as well as how the block will open the hidden door.

Ever hear of something called running away? Its like running towards them, but without the confrontation and death.
You guys have the idea, thanks. I haven't really thought of how you make the blocks, that is a good point. I imagine it would use require redstone while being crafted, because as Coga19000 correctly stated, it would activate redstone, not merely open doors or the like. The block would activate redstone right next to it as you drew within a preset radius of blocks close to it with the required torch. Also, during crafting, I imagine the block would require a pinch of dye, the dye corresponding to the torch used. The rest of the components used would coincide with the aesthetics of the actual designer. The piston, for example, utilizes a little bit of iron because it looks like there is iron in it graphically. I tried to leave too much detail out because, as you noted, I am kind of a noob, I've only been playing for around two months. I figured I ought to leave the details to the masters here. One personal opinion though, I feel like having multiple colors accepted by a block might be of use, but may complicate things, which I don't feel would be in Mojang's best interest, given the nature and audience of the game (it could help with logic gates... which might make practicality outweigh ease of use.) One last thought, while we have minecarts with TNT (useless IMO), maybe minecarts with torches in a chest would activate sorting mechanisms and create more autonomy. A little note: I apologize for the scatterbrained structure of this post.
