My suggestion is that there will be reservations filled with villagers. The reservations are aside from the mine craft world but work like villages. The villagers inside of these reservations each have a moral responsibility day and night( taking care of babies, feeding everybody, or even taking up job positions. These jobs include trading supplies,catching criminals ( inside the reservation) and making unique items and establishments. The trick here is that these reservations are isolated meaning that once you step in, the villagers lose supplies rapidly, meaning you have to help gather supplies in order to guarantee their survival. Guaranteeing their survival grants you better items to craft, an exchange and barter system only to be used in the reservation, homesteads, and more. Once again this is if you choose to walk in to these.
So... Villagers are now Native Americans, and ushered themselves into camps? Besides the eventual block-themed Trail of Tears, this sounds more like a pain than anything else. Why are the reservations any different from a Village? Why shouldn't this just be applied to existing Villages? You need to go into way more detail about everything.

Picture this.... An enclosed area where villagers are smart enough to carry out basic necessities of life and more( taking care of each other, trading, and defending against domestic conflict) now imagine you seeing one of these places and walking into it. The villagers now depend on you to survive( gather resources from outside such as wood or food) so that they could survive. You help them survive and they'll help you by giving you resources that they produced from utilizing the ones you've given them, for example... You give a forger gold and stone and hell make you a good luck necklace to prevent you obtaining damage from a mobs initial attack.etc
Wow, I never knew villagers were just Native Americans in disguise! What if you don't want to help the village? How did they survive before you came? Too vague and needs detail.
A major difference is that the villagers( the more they are supported ) will have jobs. Anything from a police force to working a store or a specialized shop. The more they survive the richer you and the villagers get with supplies( weapons, food, etcIf you don't want to help the village you're free to enjoy the rest of minecraft,the reason they survived beforehand is because this is more of a distraction... It is not meant to be taken literally
