Simple idea with interesting implications: currently, when you throw an enderpearl, you will be teleported. No matter what. If you hit a chicken you are teleported to the chicken. When you hit the bottom of a block, you're teleported into the block. etc.
Suggestion: When a thrown ender pearl hits an entity, either an item on the ground, or a mob, or even another player, instead of being teleported to that location, the item or mob is teleported to you.
This both adds function to ender pearls, and creates some balance so you have to think a little bit before just throwing ender pearls everywhere willy nilly.
If the ender pearl just hits a block then you will be teleported like normal.
Endermen and bosses (whither and enderdragon) would be immune to this.
how would "any other item" be better? throw paper to fetch things for you? what?
But this isn't really intended as something to balance enderpearls, i mean you do already take damage from them, (unless you have feather falling which helps a lot). I can certainly foresee excellent minigames using this were it implemented. And i forgot to add- Boss mobs would of course, be immune to this (whither and ender dragon).
Hm. I really think the game is better if the number of items is kept fairly minimal, but is it the general consensus that ender pearls should be crafted with something else to create a new type with this specific function?
I like the idea for the most part, but being able to teleport players to you would be extremely OP. Imagine, you could teleport them into a cluster of TNT right before it detonated, killing you both instantly.
TNT traps like that would not really be a problem, because hitting a player from any significant distance would be very difficult especially if they're moving, and if you miss, suddenly you're next to them instead of them being moved at all.
Hit mechanics would be very easy for mobs and players because there is already a defined hit box, items lying on the ground would be the difficult part to implement, and would probably be very buggy and fail half the time, but that could always be left out if it couldn't be arranged to work. If i knew anything about programming i'd at least attempt to make a mod for this but i don't so xD.
Riko- enderpearls are used in one crafting recipe, and have one function outside of crafting. there is certainly plenty of room for more functionality. I too think the game is too easy, but i would be skeptical if you were to tell me herding passive mobs is your favourite thing in the game and this ruins that. Teleporting mobs and players is more of a hassle remover, and there is always an inherent risk that you might miss. Thus it is largely self-balancing.
Also: endermen teleport just before being hit by any thrown item anyway, so they would be immune in the same way that they are immune to arrows and snowballs.
i think it could cause problems, like for you are swarmed by mobs and you throw to a ender pearl get away, oops you hit a creeper and now the creeper is next to you bomb your dead

Like, ender pearls already have tonnes of functionality. And being able to tp passive mobs to you would make this game even more god damn easy.
You already agro whatever mob you tp into, like enderpearling into an enderman is never a good idea.
No support.
