I have a suggestion, and this deals with the deletion of a thing, the improvement of 2 things, and adding a whole new item.
Since Minecraft existed, three items had always been used to navigate around the world: A compass, a map, and your brain. A compass gave you directions. A map gave you an overview of the area, and your brain was used to think how deep I was, or how far away I am from my bed.
But here's the problem, and that's F3. F3 entirely spoils all the use of the three things. It shows you where you are by the block, it shows you what direction you're facing, and it gives a dynamic view if you are going in the right direction. Only the map is a 'bit' usefull still, but is being underrated by mods.
What are the actual uses now for those items? Barely anything. Or at least, barely anything they were actually designed for. The compass is no longer needed, because F3 helps us. We don't need to know where we are, F3 helps us. Am I going in the good direction to go to a certain spot? Let's consult F3!
So, to come at a point for the actual suggestion, I want to change the following things:
- Make the Coordinations Display for F3 be dependant of the 'Allow Cheats' option, and are toggled off on server by default.
- If a player is having a Sextant and/or Altitude meter while watching at a Map, the map will display a dynamic X, Y and Z coordinate.
- Give the Compass a better guiding GUI that clearly shows you if you're going in the right direction (right-click while holding).
- A new item: Sextant. It can be made using a compass and 8 sticks around it. The sextant, once right-clicked, gives you a message with your X and Z coordinates.
- Another new item: Altitude meter. Can be made with 1 iron ingot, 1 pressure plate and 1 compass, on top of each other in the order described above. Once right-clicking, it says an accurate Y coordinate.
A thing to note:
- Do not come with messages such as: 'just don't use F3'. This is a content suggestion, not a question how to tackle this issue. If you do post this, your post will be flagged as spam, for refusing to read the actual thread.
F3 should be only in Creative mode. It was a debugging tool which, obviously should be in Creative. We don't need so many new items, try and incorporate it into the Compass or rename it into a 'Magical Positioner or something. A sextant and altimeter could be easily incorporated into a map; you could display it on the map perhaps if you add certain items to it like a bat wing or a compass or something,
I am not sure about this. F3 has been extremely helpful for me in the past, mainly for just checking my coords to tell a friend on a multiplayer server.
I am neutral.

Ever hear of something called running away? Its like running towards them, but without the confrontation and death.

Isn't that exactly the reason why to remove it from default survival? We have acces to it at any moment without meeting some requirements.

You want to be a dragon? Well, then you need to have wings, a passion to hoard, and have a deadly breath.
Oh, and did I forgot to tell you dragons are extremely territorial? ROAWR >:)

And what if I joined a server 10 minutes before my friend and he wants to know how to find me, but I can't tell him because I haven't gotten the stuff yet?

Landmarks can solve your problem. This could be an excuse to put addresses on your server.
Anyways, I think this is a good idea, not as 2 new items, but as an added function to the compass.
Things like houses and other buildings. If you are by an Obsidian Tower in a Plains biome, you tell your friend, "Hey, I'm by the Obsidian tower in the Plains biome."
Otherwise you place signs pointing out the directions to different places, or do other things that are easy for him to understand where you are.

I think that these features would be better applied as new features to the regular Compass, rather than new items. Disabling position information from F3 would be completely appropriate in a Survival setting.
It would make Nether Portal geometry much more guesswork-y without a compass, so that right there is a valid new use for compasses by itself.
@Badranpup, and don't forget that in real survival, you're NEVER 'just' handed out your coordinates (unless you have a GPS, which you have to obtain yourself though)
