I've got this awseom idea guys!!!!11 its rly epic!
Okay, no, seriously, I was trying to build something recently with redstone, and ran across an issue (that wasn't really that much of an issue, but it still gave me the idea). I think we should be able to place redstone directly on slabs. I can't think straight off the bat whether this would be a drastic improvement or a small one, but I at least would find many uses for it, such as running redstone between floors of a building.
To put it simply, you would place a bottom slab, place redstone, or a repeater, (and maybe torches?) on that slab, thus allowing a ceiling, plus redstone circuit, in one block of height. Likewise, placing redstone on a full block, and covering it with a slab, so that the redstone and slab take up one block still.
Strange i never seen this suggested before and always figured it be.
but i agree a Change like this would be good strange that redstone Dust takes a whole block instead of 1/2 if that work Redstone would be alot more compact but wil require alot of rework of power sources for Redstone.

Torch? No. If I am correct, Trches are higher than half a block.
True, but Torches have two states, on or off. They could easily duplicate those states but give it a slightly shorter model exclusively for half blocks.
The idea has been suggested before. I'm not sure how feasible it is, mainly because Redstone uses all 16 of it's Data Values to determine signal strength, and a lot of Slabs use Data Values to determine if it is the top or bottom slab and what texture it is (like with Wood Plank Slabs).
It's definitely possible, but would likely require a complete change in how the game handles half blocks, redstone, or both.
