When i was looking on the forums,i saw alot of people talking about adding things to the ocean biome becuase its so boring and vacant.I thought of a few ideas and you can comment some ideas too!Hopefully one day the ocean biome wont be so boring.
MOBS
I was thinking that maybe would could add 2 more mobs. One for the ocean and one for the land.turtles could be this mob!The sea turtle could be about 2x2 in size and sometimes (rarely) could have fish around it like in real life.it would be a passive mob and it could drop a turtle shell that could be like armor kinda (like for a chestplate) and it could be about 3 1/2 of armor protection. It can also be repaired by smelting it ,or adding another shell in a crafting bench. The turtle is a rare mob and can be found very rarely on a beach or on the bottom of the sea floor.
The land turtle could be like the sea turtle but on land. The only diffrence is that the land turtle can have a chest on its back and can be tamed using apples,or instead of a chest a person could ride on its back, but it would go very slow, maybe a little slower than a cow.
PLANTS
For the bottom of the sea floor there could be seaweed that can grow up to 2 blocks high and you can harvest it and use it to make another kind of soup (seaweed soup)this soup could be made by putting seaweed in a crafting table with a wooden bowl.it would heal 3 hunger.
Thats all i have to suggest but i encourage you guys to put some feedback and more suggestions for the ocean biome in the comments, and lets hope the ocean biome gets less boring in the next update!
Here's the thing: even if mobs and plants get added to the ocean, who'll see 'em? Adding things to the ocean can almost be considered pointless if there aren't any resources of generated structures to draw players into the ocean. Once there's a draw to explore the ocean, then adding mobs and plants will be more worthwhile.
Thats the thing though, there needs to be something in the ocean for it to be a likeable biome.Right now its just ALOT of water, and what good is that?
Well, I agree with you on that, and it's not that i don't like your suggestions, it's just that I don't think that mobs and plants alone would draw people to the ocean. You'd essentially be making mobs and plants so that no one could see them.
I like the ideas, I just think there should be some loot in the ocean first, and then we should decorate it.
Ideas like this ought to be implemented first, in my opinion.
... unless some of the new mobs/plants have drops that are drastically important to gameplay, forcing players there, but that kind of seems heavy-handed in my opinion. One of the primary components of minecraft is exploration, and loot makes exploration compelling.
Well, if we get better boats (perhaps like the ones in the "Modular Boats" suggestion -> http://www.minecraft...age__hl__ boats) then, of course, the ocean will have a purpose.
I like the better boats ideas that have been floating around, but why do you think better boats would make the ocean better? The only thing that would be improved is the mode of transportation /across/ those barren expanses in minecraft.

i totally agree with you,but i also created this post so people could suggest more things and i also saw someone else had made a suggestion for an ocean whatch tower (like a generated structure) that was in the ocean.it was pretty good too

1. What I meant was that bigger boats wouldn't really be suited for narrow, shallow, and usually short rivers and streams. I suppose that if things like "watchtowers" were implemented then upgraded vessels would be even more useful/cool/amazing.
2. Was it just a coincidence that you said, "better boat ideas that have been floating around"?

I usually have a neutral/undecided standpoint on things. And yes, I am part Swiss.

Oh, true. I hear you on the boat thing. More like, It'd be nice if we had boats that were more realistically meant for boat travel.
