Can't figure out a good way to explain this but here it goes. I think it would be a neat little addition if based on different situations [raining, snowing, etc.], your skin could change. On the Minecraft site where you change your skin, there would be a place to set a skin for these situations. I don't play much anymore [let alone SMP] but it would be cool to see people wearing different skins during rain or something. There would also be an option next to where ever the cape toggle button is to turn this off.
Here is a few situations I thought of where you could have a different skin:
- Raining
- Snowing / in snow biome
- In water
- In desert
- Fighting bosses like the wither [maybe ender dragon but that doesn't happen much]
So if you're still with what I'm trying to explain, what do you think? Also, I think this would be cool with mobs too. Depending on which biome they spawn in, they would look a little different.
You do realize that this would make skin makers have to make 6 different skins correct? And that it could also cause lag on large multiplayer servers with multiple people moving around a lot. The constant data feed would get a little overwhelming I think.

Ever hear of something called running away? Its like running towards them, but without the confrontation and death.
This would be a good idea, but think about the changing of the skins on the 80+ slot servers, It would cause a lot of lag, this would work on the xbox version though, because there is skin dlc's made by the creators, and It wouldn't cause much lag.
I don't really see how it would cause lag on servers, the skins won't change that often. It's not like they are changing several times every second for every player. But if you guys insist, it could be server optional too.

It wouldn't make skin makers do anything, if they want to make the extra skins they can. It's not like they are deigning a completely new skin each time anyway. Saying that is like saying there shouldn't be items/blocks added because texture pack makers would have to make new textures.
