I'm currently working on a texturepacks, and I was going to make the diamond sword into
a double-sized greatsword. However, I realized taht there was no way to make it bigger. Increasing
the resolution just gives you a more detailed sword. If they changed it so higher resolutions
gave you bigger items, it would ruin HD texture packs because all of the tools would be
rediculously huge.
So then I had a better idea. What if they added a "scale" adjustment option? Basically, there would
be a new parameter tha you could add to the texture's compleimntary text files which determines
animations and random texture: a "%" option. Just make a percent sign then type in a number, and
that item will be visually scaled up to that! For example, you could put %200 in swordDiamond.txt
and then it would be twice as large in your hand. This would not effect tool durability, reach or
damage: it would be purely aesthetic. Opinions?
It would probably be rather problematic for Mojang to implement, though, if they were able to have it placed into Minecraft without hiccup, I think it would be a very useful tool for those who make texture packs (I'm not sure I like the term "Texturepackers"), and those who use them.
I sincerely doubt it would be that easy, in fact I know it would be much harder than that. Making it that adaptable would require a ton of supporting code hidden in the game, if it is even possible to do at all while keeping the game stable.
Also, your idea doesn't take into account scaling along different axes. With just a 200% scale, it would just look like an overly cartoonish sword. It would be twice as long, twice as wide, and twice as thick, making it look really bad. You would need to be able to adjust each axis individually, so it would need to be like this:
X = 100%
Y = 100%
Z = 100%
Then you could make it twice as long (Y axis):
X = 100%
Y = 200%
Z = 100%
That would make it easier to manage, and give you more control.
