You would expect the string to weaken or snap during the use of bows?
This could be the way to repair items such as bows or shears or other non-tiered items. Bows would have string, shears would have iron. The parts that you use on the tool. Support is needed for small but (In my mind) useful suggestions.
Being a hardcore survival player, who enjoys but no longer plays PvP, I feel like bows should be removed from the game...
But if they must stay, this string idea would be nice. Everytime the string breaks you have to fix it an anvil, but if the wood breaks you have to make a new one (price gets too high to repair?)
It's an okay idea, but String is so ridiculously cheap it would have to only restore like 10 Durability per string. That's my guess on why it currently isn't in the game.

The suggestion makes more than enough sense, but I don't see it happening because of how insanely cheap string is. It's not very hard to make a bow, and having string alone as the fixing agent for bows makes a painfully simple task even more simple. I'm 50/50 on the shears part, because using an iron ingot or another pair of shears is nothing more than a difference of just one iron ingot.

Perhaps Shears would always repair to full with one ingot? Like Shovels with MCMMO repair?

Meh, then nobody would ever make more than one pair. Maybe it should repair 50%, so it is equal to just crafting a new one.

I understand that they can be fixed by combining them. What I mean is to be able to keep enchantments or use string to fix it.

Except you're on an anvil and this costs EXP to do. If you're shearing enough sheep that you actually break a pair of shears, wtf are you building.
