Mutton.
Sheep meat.
I don't care what you call it,
but it should be added to Minecraft.
One reason for this:
As of now, after you get enough wool to craft a bed, sheep are utterly useless. You have a bed, you've slept in it, and unless for some reason you want another bed or a flammable, low-blast resistance decoration block, you may as well kill your sheep. For no reason other than to get rid of it.
Here's an example of why there should be mutton (this actually happened to me):
You spawn in a world, sheep and their wool ripe for the taking. You kill them, make a bed and a cozy little house in no time at all. You discover amazing mines with many resources. Ravines, cave systems, a miner's dream.
But not an eater's dream.
You haven't made a successful wheat farm, you can't find enough zombies for any real amount of rotten flesh. You can't find pigs, cows, or even just pitiful little chickens anywhere. The trees around you rarely drop apples, and so you often starve to death. It really sucks.
And that's why they should add mutton to Minecraft.
Here are some textures I made for the general idea of what I think mutton should look like:
Raw
Roast
They look a lot like beef, don't they?
You can post your ideas for textures if you want.

While I'm sure that there's other proposals for lamb to drop meat somewhere, I think this one is good and likely better/different enough to be worth being its own thread.
Only thing that's really missing: How much food are they worth?
Also on your reasoning: If your wheat farming isn't successful, you should work on that. That does not invalidate this proposal. Also, wool can be used to make carpets, paintings, and sails for ported ships. This still does not invalidate your proposal.
Two things:
Yes, I do admit that I forgot about paintings. Oops. Still decoration, though.
I was thinking that they would give as much hunger and saturation as steak and pork. I forgot to put that in the post. Oops again.

Maybe they should give you 4 hunger back, like steak and pork chops!
I hope this is added, but it may not because Notch was origionally going to make sheep drop meat, but it didn't work for some reason.
Wool is almost entirely decorative, but that's a purpose in itself.
There is one small problem: This would make pigs entirely useless. Pigs require carrots, while sheep only need wheat. Pigs have no other use (apart from riding, but this is a significantly rare occurrence, rarer than the need to make a bed). Sheep also make wool, used to make beds, as well as decorative as wool blocks and making paintings.
If sheep were brought up to steak/pork level, you'd only need sheep and cows, and only need a pig when you want to ride.
Perhaps only bring them to chicken level, at 2 (1 shank) for raw and 6 (3 shanks) for cooked level instead of 3/8?
You are very good at this thing that people call thinking...
You're right. Good point. Very good point...

I'd like to say that mutton as an item would be incredibly useful and more than a little logical. All other non-aggressive mobs drop meat of some form other than squids and bats, but bats are entirely useless and squids just supply ink sacs. At any rate, the lack of mutton makes certain spawns difficult or near-impossible to deal with, unless you're a master wheat farmer. Wheat farming and cocoa bean farming are both readily available in the early stages of the game, but they don't add an extra element of excitement or even fun until much later. In addition, wheat farming isn't always particularly productive early on, and can be fairly obnoxious without a house or any means of obtaining REAL food like steak or pork chops. I think mutton is a wonderful idea and that it really should be implemented for no reason other than to make certain spawns a little easier to deal with and add another level of gameplay.
It would also be hilarious to add dog meat and, when the time comes, horse meat to the game. I don't support the eating of dogs, but it is a cultural thing in some places and I think it would be quite funny to have a little nod to that.
I think that mutton is a brilliant idea and often wonder why Mojang haven't added it already. However i don't think that the suggested texture is a particularly good one, as it looks too much like a chicken drumstick.
I made the texture the way it is because it reminds me of trolls eating mutton in The Hobbit (the book, not the movie).
Thanks, Pipsalot. I support your choice of reading material completely XD
Too bad the movie was an awful adaptation
At any rate, this will allow for MANY Hobbit-flavored jokes, of which I will partake with no shame.

Yes, I agree the movie was a bad adaptation, BUT WE'RE NOT REALLY HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE HOBBIT!

Woah, chill out, Pippin. Where's your Merry at? Sorry, I had to get that one in. Anyway, I'll make sure to tell mah peeps to come and check out your mutton stuff.
"Mutton today, mutton yesterday, and blimey if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer", said one of the trolls.
Calamari! Right! I was actually talking about that with Pip earlier. He doesn't think it's necessary, but I don't think he'd dislike it either. Additionally, I think that cooked mutton should be called Roast Mutton.
Though this is well presented, this is redundant and decreases the value of pigs. No support.
See? This is why I post my Minecraft recipe/mob drop ideas to my deviantART account instead of here! XD
Personally, I think sheep are useless in Minecraft aside from wool, so I do like and therefore support the idea of a meat drop for those bastards, though I'd have called it "lamb" because that's what we in the states call sheep meat in general. I'd have to agree that it'll reduce the value of pigs though, so I think making sheep less likely to drop mutton than pigs would be a good balance. Assuming pigs drop pork 75% of the time, for example, sheep would only drop it about 50% of the time or even less. So in the long-term, sheep would still be less valuable than pigs food-wise.

What. No. As you can see here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, etc... this is not an original idea.
