Currently the only liquids are water and lava, I think there should be more liquids.
Have an idea for a liquid:
what does it look like
what happens when your in/near it
where does it generate
images (optional)
other useful information
Mud: (Swamps/Jungles are too boring)
brown liquid
when you go in it you get slowness for 30 secs, you also get covered in mud, see images
no particle effect
generates in swamp and jungle biomes
I'm Muddy!
Milk (credit to CreeperOnTheLOOS)
Use a milk bucket to place it, to drink put it in a glass bottle
White liquid

Quicksand (credit to Bufu101 and CreeperOnTheLOOS)
Like spider webs but looks like sand
liquid with sand texture
can be found in deserts near water
texture lightly tinted blue
no images yet
Salt Water (credit to Bufu101)
In the ocean water would be salt water instead of water
if you put it on the ground, after a day you will have salt instead of salt water
salt can be used for brewing and when you eat it you get poison
Oil (credit to Bufu101)
Found in deserts and oceans. When used in a furnace can cook as much as a lava bucket does. Makes you go slow when you are in it.
I like the idea of mud, but the other liquids are eh. Mercury poisoning lasting for 20 minutes? No. And because it's toxic nature is virtually what defines mercury, I don't see this being added. The acid... could maybe work... if it had an application, and a specific location it would spawn in (Probably a new biome).

"We live only to discover beauty. All else is a form of waiting." - Kahlil Gibran
eats items dropped into it
when placed will break blocks in a 5x5 radius
Here is what would happen, as you define that block:
* Acid placed;
* 5x5 blocks broken, all the blocks become floating items that immediately get dissolved;
* Acid source stays where it is, but the acid flow goes down in the hole that was just made;
* 5x5 new blocks right under now get broken, dissolve;
* Lather, rinse, repeat until bedrock.
* Result: really, really deep 5x5 hole in ground.
Main use would be:
1- Place 1 acic bucket, go do some other stuff (like maybe other shafts) while your mining shaft gets made for free.
2- Come back, grab acid bucket back, go do some other stuff while acid flow drops to disappear.
3- Place water beside shaft, quickly swim down to your new mining area.
Also, *major* griefing possibilities here! Even *more* than with pure lava!
Also, deadly or evil or super-dangerous biomes are a big stepping out of the current way the biomes are designed.
I'd like to see acid pools as something that can be naturally found in marshes, but less devastating than what you propose here, and it's effect should definitely be something simple yet original, not feel like a lava imitation, really.
No support.
Mercury:
Lots of particles in a relatively big radius? Let's dip our hat to lagtown!
Gold is abundant and easy enough to find already without this complex gimmick.
No support.
Mud:
Now, you obviously kept the best for last, for THAT one is pure geeenius! Support!
Acid - Seems like a new skinned version of lava. Mercury - Griefers would love this. A liquid that poisons things in a 10 block radius and somehow roots out gold ore? I'll pass, thanks. Mud - Who needs Soul Sand and/or Slowness potions?
So yeah, no support. For any of them.

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.
How do we see which way the mercury flows if we get poisoned by it? Don't suggest something like a 'radiation mask', tell me. What is the purpose of mercury.
Ok so, the acid, is op if it breaks blocks, and is redundant green lava. Mercury doesn't sound balanced and seems like its trying too hard to be realistic. Mud i like.
Suggestion to simplify and try to use existing game mechanics:
Acid: poisons you when touched- done
Mercury: rename "Quick-silver" whithers you when touched- done
Mud: applies slowness debuff when touched- done
I really like the mud, but the other ones seem to easy to grief with, and finding gold is not that big of an issue.

Thossssse are sssssome nice catsssss you have there.”Haha, I do have cats. You can’t come near me now!" HAHAHAHAH BOOOOOM!!! The only creeper in the world not afraid of cats just had to find you, didn’t it.
If acid was put into Minecraft. It should only be in the Nether and just act like fast moving lava that isn't affected by fire protection and fire resistance.
Like the base idea, the mud not so much though aside from the fact that i see mud as a semi fluid rather then a full fluid.
If anything id rather see quick sand (mod already include this) in the game then mud, as for the fluids i would be nice to have like salt water etc, also maybe few extra colors added to the water depending on the biome you are in.
Oil would be cool to have, even though for me it doesnt direcly need a function (mods include this already, both oil and a function for it)
And i see a few more good suggestions already posted
Quicksand Added, might add oil as a fuel for furnaces
