Okay, so we all wish we could craft chainmail armor, right? And yes, we can get it from villagers or as loot from mobs, but it's not the same. You can't craft it.
You would craft chainmail in an 'X' pattern in the crafting table, using 5 iron and making 5 chainmail peices.
From there, you can pretty much guess how to craft chainmail armor.

And here's the 'AND MORE!' you were promised! Along with being used to make armor, you can craft above (right) to link minecarts together, like what was promised in 1.5 to make a minecart 'train'. (Having a minecart + Furnace at front with fuel has the minecart train going.) You get 2 Chain links after crafting. You link the carts together by right clicking a front or back of a minecart, and pushing the link end into an un-linked minecart. This will then link them. Minecarts can be unlinked only when a minecart is broken. A max of 15 carts, minus the furnacecart may be linked at one time.
1) Chain armor is worthless. You can either spend 24 iron on iron armor or 24 iron on inferior chainmail.
2) Both have been suggested before. No support.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
I don't think you read my post. AT ALL.
You all just saw 'chainmail' and shot it down.
When crafted, it makes 5 peices of chainmail. And I'm pretty sure using chainmail in minecart links hasn't been suggested before.
