What im referring to is the steel wool. If this was suggested prior to me posting this topic then mods please feel free to move or remove the post.
Essentially the way the steel wool block works is, when pushed into another block by a piston, the block it is pushed into breaks and becomes a collectable item on the floor. This would be great for automatic coblle/wood farms and probably can be used in a lot of other situations.
Credit for the idea goes the the OP of the original post, unless of cuorse he got his idea from someone else.
I know that they are considering adding a spike block but as far as i know this is more for player/mob traps.
If there is any suggestion that is similar to the above, please send me a link so that I can see the post.
Hehe, I'd love to see this implemented, but Jeb has a stated desire to prevent the game from "playing itself". Still, this could be balanced. For example, preventing its use on any block that has a blast resistance greater than or equal to stone would prevent cheap cobble farms and encourage clever traps and such.
Personally I think farming manually is playing Minecraft the "wrong" way, as Minecraft is about creativity. Manual labor should be discouraged, not the other way around.

But I like my unbreaking III diamond hoe named "Hoe of Demeter". :c (Though I do play SMP with McMMO so there is herbalism)
I agree with not making the game play itself, but to be honest there are much better things to do with your time than harvesting/farming. I agree that this is a big part of the game but the game would still be very much enjoyable if they added a block like steel wool or anything equivalent .
Your idea about it not working on blocks with a certain blast resistance would make it perfect in my opinion. This could be used for automatic tree farms and such, but not cobble farms (I'm not sure what players would do with hordes of cobble anyways)
Although the following topic was posted in jest as an april fools joke, one of the ideas is pretty cool and I though i'd suggest it on this forum.
