How would you guys like skills in the game? Or have a mode where there is skill building?
Well here is my idea for the game...
Add skills for Crafting, Mining, Woodcutting, Combat, Farming, etc.
You level up your skill when you obtain enough experience from the skill in which you are using.
As you may know you gain general experience as you kill mobs or mine. Well how about every time you raise your skill level up in the new skills, you gain general experience for your general (main) level as well.
Each level of the skill gives you access to do new things. And may or may not unlock stuff in the game.
Example:
Crafting:
Level 0 - Craft basic stuff
Level 1 - Ability to craft something new
Level 2 - Ability to craft something new
Mining:
Level 0 - Able to mine basic blocks
Level 1 - Ability to mine coal
Level 2 - Ability to mine redstone
Woodcutting:
Level 0 - Cut oak wood
Level 1 - Ability to cut spruce wood
Level 2 - ability to cut birch wood
Farming:
Level 0 - Able to plant wheat
Level 1 - Able to plant pumpkin
Level 2 - Able to plant melon
Combat:
Level 0 - Basic Strength, Health, and Attack & Ability to weird wood
Level 1 - Increased Strength, Health, and Attack & Ability to wield stone
Level 2 - Increased Strength, Health, and Attack & Ability to wield iron
(Or Create 3 different skills under the combat category whereas your strength determines your ability to wield what. Your Attack determines how much damage you inflict. And Health is well how much health you have.)
Now I am not saying to have it exactly like this, this is ONLY an example. Of course you would want to have the lowest level to mine, craft, cut, etc. to mine, craft, cut, etc. the lowest value object in the game. The higher the level the higher value object you can obtain or craft.
Well this is my idea of what I had in my head. Please comment on what you think of this and/or what you would alter/add.
I'm not sure this would work too well. What if you spawn in a biome where you can't cut the trees? In multiplayer,it might not work with starter kits and events where you are given an armour type for a period of time. What if you get lucky and find diamond really fast and need to do hours of combat to even use it?
Otherwise, it it gave damage bonuses and cool things ( Note MCMMo above) I wouldn't mind it too much.

Wouldn't be compatible in multiplayer and what he said. I really am sorry, but I give no support for this.
