I wanted to make a suggestion regarding bats and bat-related items. I did look briefly for bat topics on the subject but couldn't see anything, so sorry if this has already been suggested.
Bats:
I know that some people find them annoying whilst others don't mind them as much. I feel as if its based around the simple fact that bats play a more scenic part, as of currently at least. I don't mind them, and i think they are a cool addition. On that note however, just wanted to make some small suggestions.
Drops:
As you probably know, bats produce Guano (bat droppings) and so i thought cool.. but what use could that be?. Guano is a source of a fertilizer and was a component in gunpowder due to its Nitrate levels (reading the wiki). The whole fertilizer 'thing' using bonemeal seems to have been nerfed lately and i feel suggesting Guano as an alternative or subjective option would be a waste of time as there are probably reasons Mojang went this route.
We already have a source of gunpowder (creepers) and even if Guano was a compound in constructing gunpowder.. i feel it would be resented over the creeper gathering method.. especially when mob systems are present.
Originally i was going to suggest the Guano could be used as a soil creating agent (as referenced by the wiki) which would be useful in places with limited or no soil, but i later dropped the idea as a silk touch shovel seemed more compelling.
Options:
Seeing as bats are not spawning all over mainland and are mostly down in caves.. i felt it would be a cool idea to use a Guano-type item (or something similar) that helps mining, spelunking, cave diving.
The idea i have is pretty simple. Bats could have a drop rate of something between 30%-70%.
The item could be something like Guano-Sac/Bat Dropping/Guano Nugget/Poopy Dung Pile.. ect,
Much like Inc Sac's from Squids, the item could be somewhat useless by itself, but combined with something like a mushroom (also found in caves) could create an item of handy use.
With this extra step, it seems to make it more interesting.
Crafted Item:
The crafting could be something simple like 1 Guano Sac + 1 Mushroom (or Mushroom Stew) = 1 Guano Mushroom (lol sorry i couldn't think of a suitable name)
The Guano Mushroom, would become an item that is edible. Once eaten, the Guano Mushroom would give the player a sort-of potion effect that would in fact repel nearby hostile mobs for the given time frame. The effect 'time-frame' could be something like 30 seconds to 2 minutes? That would be a tricky time to get precise.
Functionality:
It would seem more functional to make this effective only if the mob doesn't come in contact with you by a set block space. Maybe if you come in contact with a hostile mob, the effect while still active, is rendered useless on that mob.. thus making the "Guano Mushroom" more effective while keeping a fair distance.
How it could work would be down to a many options.
When the effect is active, mobs in a specific radius could despawn (im not in favor of this one)
When the effect is active, mobs in a specific radius could slowly move in the other direction.
When the effect is active, mobs nearby could move until outside the radius
these are just a few ideas.
Health:
Due to Guano being bad/poisonous.. the effect could have a hit on the player the resembles a spider eye, so the player may gain some mob-repellent.. but the players health could start to reduce. This way, its not a golden gem.. but tactical item.
Why:
I like bats in the game.. i think they are cool and fun to see. I just would like them to posses the ability for drops.. and this was something that would make cave diving fun. It would also make Bats appealing when you hear or see them. The Guano item could later be improved or posses multiple uses including potion brewing and possible "place-able" on blocks for sustainable repellant? But.. i digress and those are just some of what could be many options.
This could be a good idea, or not.. so what are your thoughts or suggestions on this?
Im new here so don't hate me if this idea is terrible. Thanks
Its a bit sick... eat mix of a unknow mushroom with bat poop to repel bad creatures...I'm neutral.
Its a good point, it doesn't sounds appealing at all does it. I did think it was interesting in that sense though.. kind of like how nobody would really eat a spider eye, but you can and is possible to do for food.

Well when you say it like that.. no. im suggesting a relative item drop for a bat and possible uses.
I get the humor though.

Thanks for the honest criticism.
lol, I was kind of going for the "leather" idea where you would kill the bat and have the chance to get the item.
Then again, maybe the egg method would be better? Thoughts?
