So, I think that if you have a wolf, then you can throw a stick that they can fetch. But just right clicking to throw won't work. No, you need to right click your wolf first. Once you have right clicked your wolf, it will take the stick. When you are a significant amount of blocks away, the wolf will come to you and drop it. After that, it's a wet stick. The wet stick is just to be thrown, and if left in the inventory for too long(3 minecraft days; 1.5 if in desert) it will slowly deteriorate*. You can throw the wet stick with the right click. The thrown wet stick is an entity, but it won't despawn if thrown; only when dropped.
This can be used to make your wolves go to a certain place, or if you make your wolf sit, it will actually lie down, stick in its mouth. This would also be INCREDIBLY cute. A sitting wolf with a stick in its mouth won't move; it just stays in its sleeping position. Wolves, wild or tame, could also pick up sticks that have been dropped on the ground(As entities/dropped items). If you try and take the stick without the wolf giving it to you, it will go hostile.
That's all.
*This is shown on a durability bar. If a wolf is chewing on it, then it slowly regains durability
What I was meaning to say; was that it would slowly dry, returning to a dry one.
Its damage value (durability bar) would show how much longer it would be until it was dry - and would slowly decrease.
Oh...

The wet stick is just to be thrown, and it would have a different damage value
