Okay, I've taken the time to read this, so I figured I'd provide some feedback.
Whenever people suggest sharks, they always ask for them to be hostile. This is a bad example because sharks don't attack everything on sight, and prefer to avoid people most of the time. Hell, they might very well be just as afraid of us as we are of them (which isn't surprising, seeing as how we kill so many sharks every year for their fins and the like). So a neutral shark mob, one that only attacks in retaliation to you making the first blow, is an interesting idea that earns my approval and of course my support. It's nice to see that someone came up with a seldom-seen species of shark rather than the great white everyone comes up with, and the fish swimming alongside some of them is a wonderful idea. Some species of shark come to reefs to have their skin parasites removed by the fish that live there, so it makes sense that the fish would swim alongside the shark, rather than away from it.
It also helps that I saw that Great White episode of Inside Nature's Giants a while ago, which taught me a few new things about sharks in general. Great show, and informative too.

I also think that if they're hostile it would disrupt how players travel across ocean biomes.
Thanks for the feedback/support!

Anytime! And I'd love to see the hammerhead suggested sometime soon, I know they should be able to attack and prey on stingrays like the real ones do.
On an unrelated sidenote, I'd like to take this opportunity to shamelessly promote a suggestion I made and posted less than fifteen minutes ago. Feel free to check out Bombs, The Minecraft Way over here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1748163-bombs-the-minecraft-way/

When struck, a shark will chase and attack the player for moderate damage. They are immune to conventional methods for taking critical damage (the usual jump + hit) but recieve more damage if you strike their nose.
As for this, maybe they would have two hitboxes, the smaller head one, which takes more damage/less resistance, and the larger body hitbox. (these would be touching, but not crossing, and be the same height/width, but obviously shorter length.)
This is a great idea, and you have support! +1!
You should try and mull over possibly whales, who would be peaceful, orcas, the neutral killers, maybe jellyfish, (whose concept is pretty obvious,) and.. NARWALS. THE JEDI OF THE SEA. DEY HAV 9999+ HELTH AN R INVENSIBL HAHAHAHA

Yeah, I guess they would.
Thanks for the suggestions but I have to ask, what purpose do you think the whales would have?

Well, whales would be the gentle giants of the ocean, that would be a minor but beautiful inconvinience to your voyage. They'd be pretty rare, and maybe they'd drop blubber? (maybe water blocks. XD) And Notch said something about whales once. They need to keep their word! >

Yeah, I'll probably keep it the way that things are.

Ahaa, I try.
Edit: and I love you too! xD
Only in the long run however, as right now I think Mojang has more important things to concentrate on...Lighting Engine, Mod API etc.
Thanks for the support!
Thanks! I'm not sure if they'll be focusing on those things now though, the next update is the mob one after all...

P.S. This is the 99th comment of the post. Now it is hot. Have some Lava! Though Im not sure if the shark would love that...
I'm also working on a mod suggestion right now, but the details are a secret...

Lemme guess... Neutral Nurse Sharks with Fishes swimming along with them and drop ingredients for Water Breathing potions.
Nah, it's something related to mob suggestions though.
