This is quite a creative take on the "shark" idea everybody's been throwing around since the beginning of forever.
It's also a good way to educate and troll people. Many people, especially younger people, aren't familiar with nurse sharks or the fact that they're essentially harmless aside from their skin, unless provoked. So by your suggestion, Minecraft might actually educate the people who are tempted to run away or attack it on impulse when they first encounter it.
And as for the boat thing, nah. Nurse sharks generally traverse the bottom of oceans, where the light level is much dimmer, so it would be pretty infrequent for them to bump into anything at all on the surface. That said, I'm starting to see that there's a LOT of potential for what we can put at the bottom of the ocean, and uniformity would be pretty unrealistic.
Thanks for the great post!
It's a shame there would be no aquatic life but squid, sharks, and the undead trying to catch a break from the midday sun.
Maybe whether or not they should be around the top of the ocean is something for the polls...? If you guys have other ideas worth debating, don't be afraid to post them.

Oh, I'm quite sure the rest of the ocean is going to be pretty well accounted for, with the number of people who want to see it changed. It's just going to take awhile for them to pull through with it, considering how they've stated that they're doing far fewer overworld biome changes, but that there would be more in them.
That said, it would be pretty silly not to put things like underwater caverns or sea witches down there. That's a really popular suggestion right now, and there are plenty of mobs that could easily fit into a Vanilla ocean biome environment.

Jellyfish!
Personally, I thought Sting Rays were the perfect sharks for vanilla (yep, rays are sharks)
But Nurse Sharks work well. And the fact that Fish ride with them,
If Mojang makes changes to the Overworld in 1.6(improving the terrain for example), they had better have this mob added or I will go to their office with fifty pages of your suggestion and tape the pages to the front of their door. (Not being completely serious)
(Thank you RobbieNexus for that post you made a long time ago in my topic)

Yeah. I've always felt that they've strayed away from water-based mobs and locations because of how difficult they are to fight in, the slowed movement and risk of drowning. Hopefully that will change over time.

Reminds me a bit of Mo'Creatures and how the rays and jellyfish would just crowd in beaches and make the water practically poisonous itself. And thanks for the complement.
Also I've been thinking of what the poll might consist of, and the possibility of a banner/signature as well. You guys have any ideas?
Though, I was a little disappointed that I couldn't add spelling corrections and logic arguments to what I expected for this thread: "Hurp de deep da addz shargs plz!”

Awesome suggestion!
By the way,why not replace the leather with scales? these scales provide the same strength as leather only with more durability.
Would make it more realistic,eh?

More realistic? I suppose so, but I think it would be a little odd to have an item with less uses and only more durability.
Support. for the water breathing potion, it should be brewed with a Awkhard potion. Those sharks should drop Shark Tooth which could be crafted into chained armour?
But once again, even if my suggestion (crafted chain) sucks, i support this.
Thanks for the support and suggestions.
I'm finding myself leaning on the idea that a water breathing status should be obtained by potions (rather than easily cooking meat), but it'll still be worth seeing what people say if I start a poll.
Also I want to stay away from chain armor, but only because it seems that Mojang aren't even if they want to have it in their game.
Although that reminds me of sharks that have entire chain armor in their stomach. Maybe it would make a neat drop for a more hostile mob (or even for a nurse shark as a little Easter Egg)...
Chainmail is already dropped by hostile mobs. I have entire suits on my server I have gathered from exp grinding using a duel skeleton/zombie spawner set up. http://i87.photobuck...zps506d99e9.png
As for the idea, I rather like it. It is an interesting and unique mob.
And can be obtained from villager trades.

Related question: If one were going to make a poll (asking if people would like to see a mob like this appear in future updates), would it be done by editing the current thread or would I have to make a new one?
And, if a new one were made, which section of the forum would it be best to post it in?

I noticed that the code for the signature didn't work right (it showed the image and changed the mouse cursor but wouldn't open the link) so I've found the problem and it should be fixed now!
This suggestion is flourishing. I assume it is your first. Anyways, I have an invitation for you. I have been looking for good suggesters on the forums, and make a guild dedicated to making good quality suggestions on the forums, o that they can have a good chance of making it into Minecraft.
Thanks for the great post!

Ah, I was under the impression that the drops/trades wouldn't be able to offer chainmail as much. Thanks for the advice.
