Okay I have seen many Villager Defense threads but all of them have the same thing: Villagers should use weapons. I know; that is very uncreative. But I have thought of something different.
Villagers should not use weapons to defend themselves. Rather, use the things around them.
New defensive styles:
Door Smash
When a Zmbie chases a Villager towards a Door, the Villager will open the door and will hold it open. Then once the Zombie gets in range of the Door, the Villager will smack it at the Zombie.
Adults deal 1 heart of damage with a fair knockback while kids will deal 0.5 hearts of damage and a bad knockback.
After the Zombie gets knockbacked, the Villager runs away.
Advantages:
-Safe for the Villager
-Can affect multiple Zombies at once, provided they are all within the range of the Door
Disadvantages
-Everytime it is done, the Door used slowly breaks.
-Not a good choice if the house is cornered
Golem Guardian
When a Villager spots a Zombie, it will go to the nearest Iron Golem within the village perimeters. (To avoid going to Iron Golems who accidentally went down a Ravine, Cave, etc.)
Advantages:
-Safe for the Villager
Disadvantages
-Iron Golems attack slowly, making it a bad mistake if multiple villagers were to do this to a single golem at once
Environmental Weapons
Wenever a Vllager that is being chased by a Zombie sees a block that deals damage (such as a Cactus, Lava, etc.), the Villager will go near it, wait for the Zombie to approach, go behind the Zombie and deal Knockback (with no damage) and push it towards the block.
Adults have a farther range, but children are faster. A team consisting of both can be good.
Advantages:
-Depends on the block
Disadvantages
-Depends on the block
-Since the Zombie and the Villager have contact with each other, the Zombie gets a Knockback while the Villager gets damage plus a Knockback.
Available Blocks:
-Cactus: common, but only for a Desert Village. Grassland Villages dont have access to this unless near a Desert. Also, this block barely deals damage so the Villager ends up suffering more than the Zombie on normal circumstances
-Lava: surface lava lakes are rare, but effective. It is hard for the Zonbie to escape this. However, having one near the Village would most likely burn it (though having one at a fair distance would be a good thing)
-Fire: rare, and can only be naturally found on the surface near a lava lake or where lightning struck. This block is not permanent either. But it can provide the Villager a good defense when the time comes due to its damage along with burning effect.
Cliff Defense
When a Villager sees a 4-block-high gap or higher, it will do the same with Environmental Weapons; it will go near it and push the Zombie down it. Yes, the Zombie is not directly harmed by the Villager as Villagers deal no damage.
Advantages:
-The Zombie will still have to climb back up, thus slowing it down a lot.
Disadvantages
-Plains and Deserts are normally flat so it has to be done with a Cave or a Ravine. Ravines are uncommon while Caves are a source of more Zombies.
As you notice, the defense styles will not do much good since Vllagers are meant to be protected by the player and Iron Golems. These new defense styles are meant to slow down Zombies. (Yes, they are already slow but a group, especially a flank would be trouble so having Villagers fo these can be good...at times.)
Aside from "Golem Guardian" I dislike the others, the door smacking thing is kinda unusual, and Cliff Defense and Enviromental weapons won't work unless the zombie doesn't attack while the villager is pushing it.
The only sensible idea is the Golem Guardian one. The door smash thing sounds very silly and childish. The cliff defense and environmental defense ones are... I don't know, it's not too fitting for cross-armed pacifists. I think the Iron Golem should get some better tweaks before villagers get these brand spanking new defense AI improvements, which would be very difficult to implement and refine.
It was meant to create an opening in case the Vllager is caught in a flank. Of course, they shouldnt be able do defend themselves completely as that is the job of Iron Golems and players. Zombies will be able to turn fast and the villager will be zombie slapped to death before they can even "push" the zombie into something, so both won't work. I still like Golem Guardian though.
I am not sure about this. I think the golem one might make sense, but only if they can't see a better escape. I think if villagers aren't well enough defended, this is what is needed:
Better golem AI, such as not trying to kill a zombie chasing a villager 10 blocks away when there are two bashing a door right beside it.
This, needed.
Faster breeding- speaks for itsself
This, needed.
All villages having a gloem, and big villages having more: Ditto
This, needed.
Better villager AI, such as going inside earlier and waiting until all the zombies have burned to death before leaving.
Except, the Zombies are protected. There are some houses with the roof giving protection to the Zombies outside.
Door replacement: basically, the villagers would pick up dropped door items, and put them back in their frames.
That should take a long time as it could get overpowered
Zombies will be able to turn fast and the villager will be zombie slapped to death before they can even "push" the zombie into something, so both won't work. I still like Golem Guardian though.
So maybe it should only be done when there are a team of two villagers?
The best one is the door smash. It's funny and a good idea. The others are not very good.
Wow... I guess my lesson here is that people prefer fun above all else... Even in the forums. That is probably why my Enderman with Squid idea got 100+ comments and 32 reputation in one week.

Isnt strange what makes Minecraft unique?
