One thing that I have wanted for a long time is bigger and better boats. Ones that have anchors, you can place blocks on, cabins.. Having boats like that would be great for multiplayer, you and your friends could sail around and build on the ship. It would be like a boat house. Then you and your friends could make tnt cannons and have a war at sea with other ships.
In regards to the above, let's be honest with ourselves here. Has Mojang EVER implemented an idea proposed on this forum? No, it's all on Reddit and Twitter or whatever the latest social networking site is where some nit pitches an idea directly to the devs and they're all "OK!"
Why do we bother even posting ideas when we know they're not going to be considered in any depth, or even looked at, in the first place?

Pistons, Hoppers, Redstone Blocks, Changing the Wolf's collar color, all suggested here before being added. No guarantee that they were added because of the suggestions here but we know for a fact that they looked at both the Piston mod and the Piston suggestion here before adding them. Also, Dinnerbone has commented on a few threads in here talking about whether things would be added, and Marc has posted on a thread about changing your in game name saying that it is happening but is a work in progress:
They do pay a little attention here but we know that the odds of things being added is unlikely. But that is irrelevant because it is still fun to discuss ideas like these. If you don't think it will amount to anything nothing is keeping you here.
On topic, already suggested, as zeel said.

I have. You'll excuse me if I don't see an Allocator block ingame. There's no way to prove Hoppers were added because of that suggestion, anyway.

I'm not going to say Mojang 'stole' Pistons or any other mod but I'd like to think they saw the popularity of them and implemented the concepts into the game in their own way. I'm A-OK with that, really, but I've really yet to see a suggestion thread with a significant amount of supporters be given a distinct 'yes' or 'no', which leads me to believe they don't really keep an eye on this subforum to begin with.
As for discussing ideas, yeah, I won't be a bitter apple about that. It can be fun exchanging concepts and theories, but it irks me to know that when all that's said and done there's a .001% chance a member of Mojang is even going to look at it. Instead of getting cool stuff like expanded boats we get nonsense like cats and wolves which stem from suggestions on sites more popular with the Minecraft devs.
I'm not saying jeb himself needs to pop in here, bend over, and implement every last thing proposed on this subforum, but it'd help if at least some of them made the cut so we know they're actually looking at all these great ideas.
Well the thing is, they don't want to go onto a suggestion and say "I will add this sometime" because some Minecraft fans are nothing short of insane. There are people who watch every post that they make and make little notes with a link to the post and what it said. Then they dig it up and post it whenever something related is said. So if they outright say they plan to add something, if it isn't added immediately or they change their minds, the never, EVER stop getting bugged about it.
For example, the Mod API or better AI. We all knew it would be hard to add and they gave us a proposed timeline of when things *might* be done. And as soon as they had to push it back or things came up all people would talk about is how they were betrayed and that things are never coming. I cite a recent post here:
The problem is, Mojang doesn't really "support" mods. They allow you to mod the game, but they don't encourage it. Also, a bunch of people don't think Plugin API is actually going to come out. Ever
Also on the note of insanity, I point you to two mobs: Bats and Pigmen. Starting with Pigmen, the concept of them and Z Pigmen was added after a user named Miclee suggested it (not sure where). Notch liked it, added the code, and gave Miclee a special cape for coming up with an idea. That started a huge thing with fans all wanting personal capes for coming up with ideas or what have you, and it got to the point where Notch removed the cape from Miclee's account. That is a huge problem with specifically pointing out where an idea came from.
With bats, there is some user here whose name I do not recall who has a signature claiming that they were the ones who suggested bats and caused it to be added. I have no proof that they were, nor do I think they do. Bats have been suggested here as far back as 2010. But someone thinks it was because of them and they go a little bit nuts.
And for another reason, I myself suggested that you should be able to make the different layers of natural snow that already existed in the game code and in the next prerelease it was added. Several people posted on that suggestion congratulating me but I'm almost 100% certain that it was merely a coincidence. But even if it was because of my suggestion (which it was not), I would rather I not get credit for it because of the insanity it causes among other people.

even though this has been suggested a million times. it still a good idea. given that ocean biomes are so large. i also kinda agree that there is very little chance of anything from here being added. i really think this was mostly made to keep everyone from spamming Jeb, dinnerbone's, and notch's twitter and email. they pay very little attention to this part of the community.

Things that get added are popular threads with overwhelming support. NOT low-detail threads, and DEFINITELY not tiny, low-detail DUPLICATES of huge, popular threads.

alright, what about the modular boats thread? hmm? its old, huge, and supported. and there are no boats in game yet. so yea SOMETIMES they may add somethign from here. but i think the thought process in mojang is not "lets check the forums to see what the community wants" but more of "lets check the forums because we need an idea"

I take it you've never heard of the Allocator?
