I personally find the minecraft website somewhat dull. There is no reason to really go there after getting the game. And the launcher's news is really only good for the first time reading it.
So I propose that a person can go online, upload a Texture Pack, map, or server, and, in turn, on the launcher, there could be 3 options on the side: News(What we have now), Recently updated(Things that have been uploaded on the website recently), and What's Popular(Popular things that have been uploaded). In Recently Updated and What's Popular, there would be the sub-categories of Servers, Maps, and Texture Packs. For example, in What's Popular/Maps, there could be Herobrine's Return, Herobrine's Mansion, and other popular maps. And in Recently Updated, people could see things that you might have just uploaded. After playing a map, you could go online and leave a review. The same goes for Servers and Texture Packs. Art (Because it isn't exactly incredibly easy to picture) coming soon!

Isn't it weird thatpalindrome is emordnilap backwards?
Jeb said that he would change the launcher aspect, and make one of it's own, but not sure if in that way.
However it sounds interesting with map sharing and others. (after the mod API comes out, so there could be a mod section too)
Support!
The problem is, Mojang doesn't really "support" mods. They allow you to mod the game, but they don't encourage it. Also, a bunch of people don't think Plugin API is actually going to come out. Ever

I personally don't see a need for them to add a bunch of server space so we can upload texture packs and server info when there are already two huge dedicated sites for it, here and Planet Minecraft. And to be honest, the only reason I've ever spent more than 5 seconds on any launcher for any game is to read patch notes or news.

I'm not sure if that's actually a problem. The main purpose of a launcher is to log you in and launch the game, which it does very well. The news feed is a bonus.
But even on launchers that have other info like that, I never bothered to read it. for example, GTA4 has information like a featured user video and stuff like that on the main menu before entering a game (at least on PC), as do a few other games. But I never bothered to read it. The only thing I personally care about is patch notes or official news. The launcher is just a way for me to get into the game, I actually use a command line to automatically log me in because I get all my news from here.
I don't care if this gets added or not but if it does, it should plug directly into the minecraftforum.net news page or something like that. No reason for Mojang to spend money and manpower adding space for information most people already get elsewhere.

Wrong,
Mojang has been working on their mod API for quite some time now, and Jeb and Dinnerbone have tweeted about it a few times as well. It's going to be there, the question is when?
Here's a one of of Dinnerbone's tweets: "Re-decided on the whole "mods" vs "plugins" thing. Again. It's really definite this time; it's probably still "plugins"! #devcraft"
Minecaft.net I feel doesn't need to be changed considering we have this which has basically everything else you could possibly want besides the actual game client download which you get from the games website. The whole point of the forums is to have all the information for everything and allows us to upload our own and discuss everything. Why do we need anything else besides the forums? and the wiki (which is linked in the top tabs of the forums anyways.)

A modded looking for dedicated (at least consistent) texture artists/modelers to make magic with! Not literally magic...but...mods! PM me...
