Specific: humanoid creatures seems
like very small dwarfs or goblins, lives at compact
groups about 10-15 mobs under earth. Hates light,
but don't die under the sun. Friendly at dark,
agressive on light. Becomes agresive if player kills
more then 4 of them at group.
Features: Very rare. All time migrates in the thickness
of the earth, group of them diggs a tonnels
in different directions, and fill the hole back.
Sometimes digg a room and have a rest. Or
could have a rest at players dark parts of tonels.
Then fill it and digg forward again.
When the group of that creatures findes the players
tonnel they just move throught it at chosen direction.
But, if near the place of contact creatures and
players tonel will be light, creatures will destroy
the source of light first, and then will back to
digg there tonel.
When creatures contact with lava or water, they
constructing the hole from lava or water flows and
redirecting there digging. Some of creatures could die
due to that.
If creatures diggs on earth surface and it will be
daytime, they generates a couple blocks of obsidian,
attacks all mobs around 20 blocks and diggs down.
If at night - they have a rest till morning and also
diggs down.
If they contact with bedrock, the group of creature
redirects there move.
Player could find them at night on earth surface due to
loudly voices, they generates. At tonels, listening to
the souds of there digging, or on the rest at dark
parts of players tonels.
Player could travel with the group of creaturs, but
in absolute darkness, or try to fight them.
More about them: they diggs alot, so they must be
experienced, strong, wealthy and well equipped,
so I think, that creatures wouldn't be simple like
zombes or sceletons, and they should know how to
destroy right underground agressive mobs. And, as I pointed out earlier, this is rare mobs.
Not that I don't like your idea, but mobs that can "play" with enviroment aren't that good for minecraft.
Anyway, there is an exception for creepers and endermen, but that;s at the surface.
But the real reason is that every block they'll remove / place will make the chunk recalculate it's blocks and light level.
Imagine that in a server when 4 players are mining in the same chunk, how much lag is created , imagine with these 10-15 dwarfes/whatever they are.
Yes, It's a problem, but it could be realize at
different ways - may be the creatures shouldn't
'live' in the word all time, for don't change
enviroment to much?
They could spawn and despawn on shortly time intervals,
in different environments but quite rare.
If player want have a contact whith that creaturs,
he must catch up with them. After that creaturs
will not despawn, or they despawn if player loses them.
There's enough in Minecraft that needs an update that adding more to the overworld arbitrarily just seems silly. We need more mobs in the End. There's a great deal that can be done with current mechanics. Underwater mobs seem plausible. But this guy just doesn't fit in with anything right now, and he doesn't have much of a purpose other than, you know, being there.

In a mod, maybe. But in vanilla, no support.
I think you all right, and, also, I know, that
the mob I presented is difficult to realize,
and after this is more difficult to find
in-game, so we've got to much work and
less visual result.
Unfortunately, it's my idea :), so, let's
close topik.

This can be one of the ways of realization of their mechanics.
