Here is my suggestion. So, 1.5 just came up. I updated and went into my world. I went to the nether to search for quartz but there weren't any. So I say if you update it and there are new ores, the world will re-generate and the new ores will be there. Don't worry, your home will still be there. Everything is the same except for the ores. The ores UNDERGROUND will switch places. The new ores will take over some ores. Only the stones and gravel and dirt will remain in their place.
So, what'd ya say? Leave it in the comments section below!
(Facepalm) You must put this topic in the "Help and Support" section to get help and advice This is the suggestion section to include in the game. Use you IQ mate.
As I understood his/her topic, this is a suggestion to let the ores regenerate after every update, which, as far as I understand Minecraft, is impossible.
Anyways, walking to fresh chunks or starting a new world would solve the problem, and is probably better than what you're suggesting as that may cause world corruption/minecraft crashes.

Curse PremiumSpliced, create new items and blocks by splicing together existing ones!
Erm...that's kind of a given isn't it?
