CACTI-
My idea basically is spawning cacti in a desert biome.
Then you could cut them down and use them as either defense for your house, or you could cut them open to get cactus juice, which, when used in a bowl (unboiled), heals you, but may make you hallucinate. If you cook it it heals you more and gets rid of the hallucinogenic affect.
HALLUCINATIONS-
You could have the gamma and contrast go up a little bit, and invert the colors.
Then you could have things randomly appear in your inventory.
Then I suppose there could be a mob that spawns just out of view that just peeks around corners at you.
Wait that would just make everything incredibly terrifying.
Awesome idea mate! Would be quite funny too see a golden pickaxe in your inventory, only to grab it and have it dissipear! Hehe, if I may make a few suggestions, I would make it so that the cacti only spawn with a wide space of around 3 Sand blocks around it, and have a chance of dropping a cacti bloom, which could grow new cacti with enough attetion and lack of water.
Also, maby a desert themed map, with lots of sand and inland, with yellowish leaves on the ground, sand dunes and cacti. Who knows, anyways, I like it!
Edit: And maby to improve on that desert idea, have strange oasis, rarley placed that have trees and fresh water, as well as grass!
Cacti don't give you hallucinations! At least not the ones I've had. This would be very fun and a great way to get healing items in a barren environment.
Cacti: good idea.
Cactus juice: also a good idea.
Hallucinations? I'm not for that. That's just crazy. I'd never know when the hallucinations ended. Whose to say that spider I see is actually real? Yeah, I'd hope it wouldn't do that.

I don't think a cactus like that would do. If we have cactus I hope they look something more like Saguaro cacti. Hopefully then they would grow and perhaps drop some sort of seed when cut down to grow more like the sapling.

I agree with that.. cacti should look like how we imagine cacti. Although combining two traits to make one in-game plant would make enough sense, really.

saguaro would work really well with minecraft graphics.
I was thinking of the prickly pear. They are chewy, but taste not too bad (honestly not that great either) when fried. There's some other one I've had but I don't remember the name. Tasted terrible. Anyhoo. Hallucinations are for mushrooms. Suguaro cacti's inner juices are pretty much just water. Bitter from the plant but nothing harmful. I'm for both the Pear (has fruit, which is pretty bad tasting to me) and the Suguaro. Of course we'd need the biomes first!
Cactus. Elegant yet powerful. The juice extracted from a majestic specimen like this can produce a mild hallucinogenic effect if consumed orally. If, however, this rather weak extract is tampered with by military geniuses-
- a highly dangerous weapon is produced.
Though this would be relevant. I am all for cactus juice farming. I also wish it was possible to stack cactus chunks like blocks to create makeshift barbed fences.
Away from an Avatar: The Last Airbender derailing, this idea is brilliant and I support it. To have the option to make everything go spastic by hallucinations would add some much needed laughs after being scared to death by mining a cave only to be faced by a horde of skeletons after a Dungeon is generated in the middle of a cave.

It would make dirt an actual RARE recorse, hehe!
And look, not a single mention of pot or other narcotics.
But I want minecraft cactus.

No? Remember Cave Game...?
I imagine this is a reference to peyote cactii: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peyote
I have no idea how I remember this crap. No wonder I never remember the names of the people I meet.

I don't actually like the idea, but I'm glad you made the topic and reminded me of it.

Friendly mushroom! Mushy giant friend!
