And now I suggest you to improve rail-system with this:
1)Crosses for rails.

This is not generously my idea, it's taken from RailCraft, But still - this things will suit vanilla minecraft, i think. For now rail system is a little bit clumsy
2)Unboard rails/unboarding action for Activator rails
3)"Pick-up-cart" action for dispenser/minecart dispenser
4)Detector of minecart with passenger
5)Possibility to chain carts together into the train
This stuff will be enough for wide variety of metro/train/minecarts system
And here's some trap-style (but also useful for peaceful using) stuff:
6)Rising bridge block. Solid thin block always placed on the top side of voxel with some metal/wooden texture that turns into non-solid block with same texture, but split into 2 adrop parts and no collision box. If several blocks of this type is placed one-by-one, then powering of one block will power up every block (just like redstone rails)
7)Railed bridge. Same as previous one, but with rails on it.
8)Spikes. This thing were planed, but then abandoned. So, again, I suggest to add some block with damage-properties of cacti and posibility to be pushed by piston.
9)Clue potion. Potion, that cannot be drinked, but only brewed as bomb. After dropping somewhere, creates temporal non-solid blocks (just like fire) in a small area. This blocks slows down mobs and players walking onto them. M.b. some periodical or poison damage-over-time while walking by.
Most people think that 1.6 will be a farm and animal update already. I'm not saying that that has been confirmed but there is confirmed hay blocks and confirmed new mobs for 1.6. that bomb potion is really just TNT :P. If you play around with rails and redstone for awhile you'll find that most of the things you suggested are already in the game. Do that for awhile and enjoy 1.5 for now :D!

Way to judge a person by the first post on thread. "This idea is good" is an opinion, one that I do not share with this topic. Did I say I did not want these to be added at all? No. Some can already be done in-game (multi-cross rails, switch with a lever and/or redstone) Clue potion, potion of slowness & poison can do the trick.
I however do not think this is worthy of its own update. This seems more like features in a snapshot, not something to base months of work around.

Locked for wishlisting. Do not post multiple unrelated suggestions in the same topic. Also, please do not give a specific version number for your suggestions, as if they don't get added, it will just look silly when we're on, say, 1.7 and you want something added for 1.6.
Just make your suggestion, no need to give Mojang a deadline...

Where? :-) Did'n see any of them. Most of this things are implemented in RailCraft, but not in vanilla. Maybe you are using allready modded client?
