Now, as all of you know, Minecraft is a very laggish game, despite having pixelated graphics. Normally, the maximum FPS I can get would be 50. At most. Now, to add on top of that, OpenGL is being used as the main renderer, and it normally tends to make a considerable amount of lag, even when my video settings are at their fastest. This is getting on my nerves, especially in cases when I NEED to see very far away. However, I few other games I have seen that use Direct3D, another rendering engine, ran MUCH faster, up to 125 FPS! Even on my computer that somehow doesn't have a good graphics card. That having been said, when the rendering engine supposedly planned by Mojang comes, why not have an option to either use OpenGL or Direct3D?
Yeah with a game like this it is really impossible to know if it would be superior until it is actually done, and even then it would be different for every person. I wouldn't mind the option, but I don't think it is a priority, especially if you are already getting decent fps.

One of the reasons I believed this could work was also because of GPU compatibility issues, on my old computer Direct3D worked better and still at about a hundred frames per second while OpenGL is overdependant in most cases. It would be a better solution as to make up for the fact that the game's performance is troubled.
I recommend getting Optifine if you don't have it already. It'll boost your FPS.
The pixelated graphics don't matter. It's a game that has to draw lots of stuff, and it's in Java. My old computer could run stuff like XPlane, Team Fortress 2, and other games with detailed graphics just fine, but it had trouble with Minecraft.
Also, it might just be my GPU (ATI Radeon HD 2600), but OpenGL is always faster for me than Direct3D. Isn't it supposed to be like that in general?

Unfortunately, Optifine barely helps my issue, if at all.
OpenGL is normally, to me at least, supposed to give high detailed graphics. Some games have even more advanced rendering engines, yet this lags more for some reason.
