(These are just concepts and ideas. I am not a part of Mojang, and none of this is official or real)
This is not a console war. Please do not post about other consoles unless it's regarding the current topic.
MINECRAFT: Wii U EDITION
The only exclusive to Xbox game I've ever REALLY wanted is Minecraft: Xbox Edition. Even though I have Minecraft on my PC and my iPad, I still wanted it on a console I owned so I could play it on the TV, which always appealed to me. When I heard that the contract for Mojang and Microsoft would end soon, this got my hopes up that Minecraft could be released on other consoles! However... Recently Jens said this:
Jens Bergensten:
“Microsoft has an exclusivity deal for consoles. When it runs out we’ll consider Minecraft for PlayStation, but Wii U is very unlikely.”
Woah, wait what? Very unlikely? Why? It's not that the Wii U isn't powerful enough because it's at least just as powerful as the Xbox! Anyway, I really hope this isn't just a way of saying "it won't happen". I understand that porting to the Wii U is a lot harder that porting to the PS3, just because the Wii U and Xbox are very different, but it's still possible with a little extra work. I'd defiantly pay $20-$35 for it.
But lets say they DID make the "Wii U Edition". How would it work? What would it look like? How would the Game Pad be used? Well... Here's how I think it should be done....
(Please note that I tried to get all pictures to look as closely as possible to the Xbox Edition, but I don't really know much of how it looks.)
How it looks
Obviously, the actually game would be played on the TV, and the Gamepad would serve as the inventory and crafting! The way it would work is you tap an item to select it (as you can see from the picture above, Seeds are selected.) and then you tap an empty spot to place it back. They (Mojang) could also make where you could just drag the items. You push "Y" (See "controls" section) to switch the Gamepad's screen to the crafting menu and then "X" to switch back to the inventory. (Click here for a separate image of the inventory, and here for an image of just the TV, and here for an image of just what the TV is showing.)
So this is the crafting. It'd work just the same as the Xbox version, just with simple taps instead of using buttons. Now when you activate a crafting table, it would instantly open the crafting menu, adding the items that can only be crafted with and crafting table.
CONTROLS
Left Analog Stick: Move
Pressing Left Stick Down: Change Camera Angle
Right Analog Stick: Look
Pressing Right Analog Down: Toggle Sneak
A: Drop Item
B: Jump
X: Enter Inventory
Y: Enter Crafting Menu
L: Cycle Held Item Left
R: Cycle Help Item Right
ZL: Use (Dig/attack)
ZR: Activate (Use/Place)
+Start: Pause, of course!
OFF SCREEN PLAY
Off screen play is one of the best things in Wii U games. But it can be hard to work, since lots of games use both the gamepad and the TV. Ya' know. Like you're supposed to. Now, if it didn't support Off Screen Play, It wouldn't be any less of a great game. The way I see it working is that you switch it in the options, and then it plays out exactly as the Xbox does, just on the TV. Pretty simple, really.
MULTIPLAYER
(Sorry, I have no picture.)
Now, this is something that I'm not really sure how they'd do. Online play would be pretty straight forward... But what about local play? I'd only be playing local multiplayer, honestly. This could be one of the reasons they're hesitant to bring Minecraft over to the Wii U. Now, I don't think that they should try and support the Wii mote and Nun-chuck. I mean, I love the Wii Mote, but I just think it'd be too much work that it's worth. I think the controls with a Wii Mote would be messy and hard.
But that doesn't mean there can't be local multiplayer. They could use the Wii U Controller Pro! And, of course, the TV would be split into fours, just like the Xbox Edition. The controls would be the same as the Xbox, and the inventory and crafting would be the same as the Xbox Edition, too. Then, one player could use the Gamepad and either be a fifth player, or just the forth player with extended control.
As a side note, think of the Skin Packs! They could make a Mario Pack, with Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi. And a Zelda pack! With Link, Zelda, Ganondorf... And Metroid! And like, other Wii U game characters!
Now, by now you probably know that I want Minecraft: Wii U Edition more than ANYBODY else...
And, to be completely honest, I wouldn't mind if they didn't use the Gamepad at all, and JUST used the Controller Pro. It'd be disappointing, but I'd still buy it and play it. If they do end up just releasing it on the PS3 and Xbox I'll be very sad and would probably buy the PS3 version anyway. All in all: Mojang will do what they feel best, and I can only hope and dream...and photoshop images, and post threads, and droll over the though of a Wii U Edition.
I just want to thank everyone for the kind words and all the support. You guys are great, and I love you <3 If you want, I've made signatures you can use! Thanks again, guys.

Thanks for reading, and if you have any ideas or concepts on a "Wii U Edition" then post them! Please tell me what you think, if you have the time to. I spent all day thinking about this and making the images. But remember....
The reason I'm guessing the WiiU isnt a 100% option for Mojang is because Minecraft is VERY unpopular in Japan. Nintendo focuses on what Japan likes first, then Europe, then the Americas. Also, a strong language barrier between Mojang and Nintendo. But I support. WiiU and even 3DS support would be cool to have.
He also adds that the possibility of a Wii U expansion is “very unlikely.”
This has also been suggested many times before, but as this is easily the best version of this suggestion yet. Excellent work. I don't care if it does or not, but it would be cool.

Yeah, I didn't think of that. Maybe Nintendo of America could help? But then it'd be going through Mojang to NOA to Nintendo Headquarters. Yowzaa. Thanks for the support!

Nintendo is based in Japan. This is why it is considered highly unlikely. I support anyways.
Yeah...that's not an issue. Nintendo is connected globally. You can talk to Nintendo America, send in ideas of your own, even meet reps in person.
As for language...we live in a world where we can talk across the globe at the speed of light. Translation issues are going to be at the bottom of any list.

Nintendo America maybe, but Nintendo Europe (I think its in either France or London) would be good. I think it might also be because Mojang isnt a fan of Nintendo as much as Sony. Also, a large chunk of the MC community is more Sony fans then Nintendo fans.

That is true. But Mojang's interest in Nintendo is also a big thing. Maybe if all the Nintendo fans were to start something?

Well that's good. I would have been really bummed if it was because of that reason.

That is, until they block Sparklez's parodies on youtube.
On topic, good idea. Once it expires I'd love to see this.

I have discovered a truly remarkable proof of this, which this margin is too small to contain.

This is probably the best console thread I have ever seen! Really damn good work here!
I'll add a link straight to this thread from my console megathread page.
In terms of raw power, the Wii U has more than enough power to run Minecraft, hell, it has more power than most PCs that are coming out now. While I don't own a Wii U, I'd like to see it's inclusion onto that console. Great work!

It really makes me feel good when someone like you wants to see a game included on a console they don't own.
Thank you for the support!!
I do play on the PC, but on a desktop. And I'd love to play on the TV.
I don't have an Xbox, and I'm not going to buy one just to play minecraft on my TV.
Also, I personally prefer the Wii U over any other console.
