Now before you start saying "You're just raging, You'll get over it" Think about it how many times Have you killed a Skeleton without getting hit? Not very many times i expect, so why not have a better way to dodge a Skeleton arrow than running around it like an idiot? It will add some strategy to the game especially SMP and The wither boss fight. There are a few ways to implement it but Rolling is the most practical.
So heres how it will work:
Rolling must be quick and effective to dodge projectiles, about 3x faster than sprinting.
Since Rolling is faster than sprinting there needs to be limitations or else people will spam it in SMP lets
say everytime you use it: it will use half of a Hunger point so if you spam it you won't regenerate hearts.
Instead lets say you can only use it every 3 or 5 seconds depending on what difficulty you have
There could be some enchantments to make it more efficient too.
The screen should not move with the players eyes instead make it like the evade from Halo: Reach so the player moves but the screen doesn't move so we can avoid people ruining their computer screens by puking on them.
So what do you think? And what do you Disagree with?
Since the Skeletons are going to get buffed i really need to see this happen.
No replies thanks guys!
I'm positive i'm not supposed to say that but its been 2 hours and no one has replied probably because of the topic name. I always had trouble with topic names.
Seems legit. Instead of no dodge-roll view movement, how about your view moves with your character IF you have the view bobbing option turned on in your options. Also, what is your definition of "spamming" dodge-roll? How about something that is easier to define: dodge-rolling takes up hunger twice as fast as sprinting the same distance, and slow down the player significantly for about a second after finishing the roll. Also, how would we dodge-roll? Would we hold L-Shift and double tap W to dodge-roll? Or would it be an option like pressing R-Shift to switch from jumping do dodge-rolling and vice versa? And it would have to be MUCH harder to do in water to prevent the abuse of quick traveling across oceans without a boat or bridge.
Well, three times faster sounds a bit too fast, but it won't really matter so long as it is faster than sprinting.
It could be done by double tapping shift. Like sprinting's alter ego.
I kinda like it, but dodging arrows isn't really a problem when you have Matrix powers.
I support anyways.
Support. I must agree, dodging skeleton arrows is very inconsistent. I can never dodge them while jumping around, but somehow the arrows miss when I'm standing perfectly still!

Most games that implement a roll function have a short delay at the end before you can move again so it's not any faster for long distance travel.
I usually use or make cover when fighting skeletons. Doesn't always work, but I usually live. That said, I support.

My definition of spamming is if players keep rolling around annoyingly and can be used to replace sprint i also like your idea of having slowness for 1 second but this will cause problems making it useless for the wither since the wither shoots quickly and Instead of taking hunger you can only roll every 5 or 3 seconds. The key for rolling should be convenient something like: F, R, Left alt or Z But i do like the idea of pressing R without shift since shift is probably going to get annoying, For water it won't do anything and view bobbing shouldn't define whether the rolling View In my opinion, It will be its own option. Thanks for the ideas too i will edit them into the topic now.
