So the idea just aims to make Minecraft a bit more challenging, and somewhat more realistic in terms of reaching those deep reaches of the earth. Essentially the idea is make stone harder as you go down further, and to counter this a new item known as the "Forged Pickaxe" would be added. It's pretty simple to craft, stick a regular Iron Pick in a furnace to get a "Heated Pickaxe" then put it in an anvil with an extra Iron Bar to create a "Forged Pickaxe 1". These hardened pickaxes work the same way as regular iron picks, except as you go down with a regular Iron Pick you start to notice the stone takes longer and longer to break. So by making a Forged Pickaxe you essentially counter the hardening of the stone that makes it harder to break. Also, note that diamond and gold picks don't need forging to go deeper, all stone breaks the same for them, and stone picks just can't go past a certain point. This also makes Gold Picks worth making, cause currently they're just good for power farming netherrack.
I don't even know if this would be possible on Minecraft's engine, but it seems like a good way to add depth to the world. Right now in Vanilla minecraft, you just kinda dig. There's nothing really different as you go down spare for the higher risk of falling into lava. I dunno, criticize all you want, but I think it's pretty brilliant.
1) I don't support this suggestion because it would add unnecesary mechanics that would be required, and wouldn't really add anything of value to the game. Adding new mechanics are usually best if they're optional (Take trading, enchanting, and brewing for example) If you want to make mining more realistic, you should check out a mod called terrafirmacraft. I don't believe this sort of mechanic belongs in vanilla mc though.
2) Never, call your own idea brilliant.
No support. This reminds me of the bonemeal nerf.(the compromise was okay except for the randomness but honestly I thought that the nerf wasn't needed for hand placed bonemeal.
