Precision Lens (sorry can't think of a better name, up for suggestions)
This item will be made by crafting (in a crafting table) a horizontal line that goes
s q s
s-string
q-nether quartz
When wearing it, it allows the user to place blocks with more precision. Much like in the Tekkit Mod Pack, when aiming at a block when trying to place an object, an interface will appear on the face of the target block you are pointing at, allowing you to place the block in hand in the center (normal) or any of the edges (flipped on end). This includes slabs and stairs.
Worn in the headgear slot it will have no armor value, but it will degrade when placing blocks (maybe only when placing blocks in a way that you couldn't normally?)
This is helpful to builders that wish to make more aesthetic structures, and could probably even be implemented in redstone.
This would also be pretty balanced, because its cheap, provides a good use, and quartz is fairly common, but you pretty much have to find diamond before finding it, and you have to risk your life in the Nether.
First off. The feature you are talking about is a Red Power thing. Not a 'tekkit' thing. And is only supposed to be used when placing Micro blocks. So it's pointless to add this to vanilla with out also adding the Micro block system that accompanies the interface change.

Humanity is the creation of Logic and Emotion, Calculation and Imagination, Cold Analysis and Blind Faith. This is why I believe it is a strange Human that would prize one while shunning the other. For a calculator can do math just as well as you, but a calculator can not use math to make the world a better place.
RedPower is included in the Tekkit Mod Pack. Half slabs, etc are a type of micro block, so the interface still applies and is useful for the above reasons.
Meh, not super useful with the idea you have for it, as it's pretty hard to be imprecise with placing regular blocks. Maybe use nether quartz as a telescope?

Yes red power is included. But that doesn't make it a tekkit feature. Tekkit is a mod pack and as such can not claim to actually have any features. Unless the mod as a whole is considered a feature. And seeing as slabs can only be placed in one of two positions in vanilla my point still stands that it would be useless with out the ability to place blocks that have a larger number of positions. Like the actual micro blocks added by red power.

Slabs are not hard to place, I'm afraid. Unless you have some difficulty moving your mouse up a few pixels.
That aside, sideways slabs (essentially the only real reason you can provide about adding this) are redundant. Placing upsidedown stairs and slabs are pretty simple to begin with, so there's no issue with difficulty for those.
Great idea.
It's wonderfully balanced, since string and Quartz are common, but you need Diamonds to get to the Nether, and you risk everything there.
Plus, I'd love to have my stone slabs coating my walls.
Support.

Useless and redundant. Is it that hard to place a stair?
It is hard to place a stair. On end. Especially when that action isn't included in vanilla game code.
This idea is specifically for sideways slabs and stairs haha.
