Does anyone else remember how Nocte was able to get 30fps with a 1000 block view radius?
That's without any optimization. With a well optimized system, we could probably see people with high end systems actually playing with the 1600 block view radius that was used to make the screenshot for the new banner.
The only excuse that Mojang can actually make is "we can't be bothered", or "It will take effort to implement, and we think that effort would be better spent in other places". Of course, both of these excuses are probably ill-advised given the various advantages of the Cubic Chunks system.

I don't have a Twitter, but I've considered getting one for the specific purpose of telling Mojang about this. I actually said awhile back that we SHOULDN'T spam Mojang about this, just tell them about it and try to get a reply. Heads would roll if someone screwed this up, believe me...
I have discovered an amazing fact, the majority of the people of the world are, in fact, idiots.
Well said! Calacbolg should add that to the OP.
I know how you feel. I've been really busy with work, and I haven't been able to post as much as I want too.

Pfft, work. I'm on uni break. 4 weeks of not actually having to do anything at all.
Anyway, I'm currently churning over another idea for a simple optimization, and I'm making a properly formatted out rough template for the presentation. I'll post both things when I get around to finishing them and stuff.

This is probably true right now. Im sure Mojang is working on other thing or has promises to keep, like the Mod API. The best we can do now is hope this gets popular enough for Mojang to notice.
Also, the mediafire viewer doesn't let you click on the contents page to browse through the document, but this will work properly on adobe reader.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
I'll one-up you in OCD by pointing out that "Truly Infinite Map!" is tilted in the opposite direction of the terrain surface (and the other labels which contour to it,) which looks kind of aesthetically unpleasing IMO.
I'll up you five; my initials are OCD.
No, I'm 100% serious. My initials are actually O.C.D.

Well, I looked at your draft, and I have to say it's very well done. We just need to fill it out and print it out and hand it to Mojang.
It's not something we could quote at the Q&A segment of Minecon, but perhaps we could ask a basic question, try to get their response, and then give this to them afterword as a good follow-up.

Your sense of style is pathetic , I always look to java programers for style , because where ever they are , they always have .class.
Calm down man, you'll hurt yourself. I like that idea about the Nether though.

Why did they not add this in the infdev update?
WHY, MOJANG, WHY?

Curse PremiumThe cubic chunks system would have to be implemented for all dimensions.
Its a huge pain to combine multiple saveformats into a single system.
Thats one of the main reasons why converting maps is buggy as hell.

Because Notch decided not to?
Hold on a second there, boy/girl! When we say "Higher values", we're not talking about far. We're talking about double far render distance. The default VD of 10 for servers is 1 more than Far, and it would lag less with this system. It makes sense to me, people with older computers can play with less lag, people with newer computers can have extreme render distance vertically as well! People with good but not great computers would still have a lag reduction.
You are also contradicting yourself, sir/ma'am! You yourself said "you guys are trying to get rid of these unrendered blocks, i see no fps improvement by doing so" so, if you think lag won't get reduced, how can you possibly at the same time think lag will increase with farther distances?!?
If properly designed, a system could have a dynamic view range rather than a spherical view range, which means you can see farther in the direction you'd like and still have less lag. You're going to have to define 'proper render distance' for us. Again, you are contradicting yourself on whether lag is affected or not.
The main reason the CC mod lagged was because it was an unoptimized, unfinished system.
I'd personally see a rise in sales if people were to tell their friends "Hey guys! Guess what! There's this game called Minecraft where you can build anything you'd like! You can do anything you want! The map goes on infinitely, and the latest update caused the height to become infinite too! This is the perfect time to buy the game!". It will effectively decrease one of the aspects of lag, we never said this would be a 'lag destroyer'.
We would only be able to implement such a system for all dimensions at a time, but yeah, the best idea is first to make the chunks cubic with the current vertical limits and light system, at that point nothing would look different client-side but it would still decrease lag. After the generation, conversion, and storage of chunks in a cubic format is optimized, then we should change the lighting system to work on any y-axis using the heightmap system and such.
As for vertical far lands, that would happen, but we'd never know for sure because this wouldn't be implemented in Beta 1.7.3
I have read the OP, and it says that there would be chunk loading optimization. If it doesn't lag my terrible, terrible laptop, then I would be playing more frequently.
Better world gen. Hmm... From the "prototype" I saw in the OP, massive hills. Massive hills = Massive obstacles, although it can make for some interesting "in the side of a mountain" houses, though....
I general, good idea, as long it doesn't lag my terrible, terrible laptop.
It wont. Thats the point. HUGE terrain, less lag, more opportunities and awesomeness.
How would the Slime chunks be affected?

Curse PremiumThe rendering system of minecraft is horribly un-optimized.
That is why Optifine does such a great job in incresing performance.
All Optifine does is to practically erase all the mistakes in the render-system.
For the slime-chunks: That is not part of this suggestion.
