Cubic Chunks would make all that and more possible.

That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;

Well... We would contact mojang via Email.
I would also love to have terrain generation options (so we can decide on maximum height of terrain and trees).
With cubic chunks (plus seasons), I could see new biomes. Real mountains, underground glowing mushroom biomes, crystal caverns, sky islands (Aether), etc.

1. I'm sure this will happen; there are already options like that for server owners!
2. This has been discussed before, and I'm sure you will be told that it's beyond the scope of the current suggestion (specifically, JUST talking about chunks being cubic) but I want to take this moment to say AWESOME AWESOME AND ALL MY YES. <3
According to your logic, playing an entirely different world is also the same as walking far away because 'it's so more efficient not to have worlds you're not even in right now have their chunks loaded'. I'm done arguing, I'm honestly surprised Nocte or someone hasn't provided their rebuttal.
I'll just leave you with this: A large wall is in your viewpoint, hiding a very dark area. According to your logic, that area doesn't need to be loaded, making it 100% safe since mobs can't spawn, and breaking 99.99% of CTM maps everywhere.
I think E-Mail is a good idea. But a better idea would be for everyone who supports this and goes to Minecon to meet up there and try to talk directly with the game developers. I heard it will be somewhere on the east coast of the USA, and there is a good chance I''l go to it.

Curse Premium2. Lag will still persist if there are too many mods, right? The chunk system does nothing for others? If so, a ton of cows can still cause lag?
I feed off changelogs.
Asking for updates is spam. Really.
I make some mods that are pathetically slow to update. Join in on the wait here and here.
1. Notch is out from MC's dev group. D-bone, maybe?
2. Yes, maybe. This only reduces lag caused by too many block updates(correct me if im wrong).

That's where the timestamps come in -> the timestamp tells minecraft (upon loading the chunk when you enter the dark room): "Look, minecraft, this is how much time has lapsed since this chunk was last loaded." And then Minecraft says: "Oh, but there are locations monsters can spawn. I know! Let's determine how many mobs could spawn by looking at the difference in timestamps." And then minecraft spawns a lot of mobs and all CTM maps can go on killing players.
Another option is that Minecraft adds chunkloaders that load 3x3x3 cubic chunks around the block, preventing the chunks from unloading. The mobs can keep spawning just as they normally do now.
This suggestion won't prevent lag from:
- Mod authors creating and constantly using huge unnecessary particle effects that drain your FPS
- Mod authors from making errors that drain your FPS
- Mod authors from making really really really strange mods that drain your FPS
- You from spawning 5000 cows/creepers/other entities that drain your FPS
- You from installing that 2048*2048 texturepack which will drain your FPS
- You from using your crappiest, oldest computer to play minecraft (you'll have low FPS already
Loading a different world is again, as far as the game is concerned, exactly the same as walking far away. The point is simply that the game will not load chunks that are not near the player. It doesn't matter WHY the chunk is not near the player, be it dimension, euclidean distance, or the player being in a completely different world in a different instance of Minecraft. The end result is that the chunk does not get loaded.
It is also not hard to load or unload selected chunks regardless of where they are in the world, and I imagine that it would be possible to load chunks from other worlds as well. A chunk is, after all, nothing more than an arranged list of data upon which the CPU performs simple operations.
Anyway, I suggest you reread my suggestion. My viewpoint is that a chunk filled with stone and nothing else does not need to be loaded. Similarly, a chunk bounded by "solid" faces [aka, the faces on the adjacent chunks are "solid"] can be considered "entirely obscured" and therefore does not need to be loaded.
If the player goes near said chunk then by all means, load it and start spawning mobs in the dark places contained within (remembering that our criterion will more often than not select chunks that are filled with nothing but stone, gravel and dirt). There's no reason to load chunks that the player is not interacting with and doing so is just wasting resources that can be better spent in other places. There is also no reason why chunks can't be given tags such as "always load". Such tags could also be set by default if there are certain blocks within that chunk (like a furnace, or crops, or a command block, or even a new "chunk loader" block).
I did discuss all of this in my earlier post[s]. I do not mean to insult you and I'm not saying that your argument is wrong. It's just that where I'm talking about chickens, you're talking about ducks. Perhaps I am somewhat to blame for simply describing my chickens as "bipeds with feathers", and I apologize if this has caused you to assume that I am talking about ducks.

WOOOO HOOOO! I'll probably be going. I think by the time the convention actually happens Cubic Chunks will have at least 1,500 supporters.

My solution would be to make zombies slaughter everything that moves, not just the player and villagers.
I'm the kind of person who would also have made wolves feed on nearby mobs when hungry, and then mercilessly hunt and ravage the player when there were no animals left.

Yes I am.
Either of these things would decrease the number of passive mobs, although the zombie one could result in losing all your animals after a zombie spawned in your paddock... to counter this, I would make cows capable of damaging other mobs. If you tried to punch a cow in real life, it would probably end up trampling you to death while running around in terror.

Cows can be pretty dangerous...
We should have a party when it reaches 1,000.
