Could cubic chunks cause problems with the internal server, and how could this problem be solved?
Another contributor mentioned out that some redstone machines may break:
You can find the discussion here.
Woah ... does that mean my idea was, even temporarily, mentioned in the main post? That is AWESOME. 8D

Curse PremiumIt's really confusing for people that didn't yet read the thread.
These people come and say "Infinite Height == more Lag... Dislike!", they don't even read the suggestion.
Some of my friend's found this topic and instantly disliked because they thought "Infinite Height == More Lag".
So can someone please make a new banner that says "Make Chunks Cubic!" in the title, not "Make the map height infinite!" ?
Have a nice day everyone.

Curse PremiumNocte's Engine is based on C++, wich is it a bit faster than Java in accessing (byte) arrays and reading/writing them.
The difference in performance is around 3% I think (at least that's what most website's say).
But there is a easy work around for that:
Save the chunks in direct ByteBuffer's.
They are smaller and (sometime's) faster than byte-arrays.
At least that's what the specification and the benchmark's from the official Java forum say about them.
Just an idea!

Cubic chunks would not cause any more problems than infinite chunks horizontally. How would it? It's just another axis.
About the redstone machines: Maybe, but this will allow for redstone machines to work at a greater horizontal distance. Chunk loaders could be used to keep any very large machines loaded, the same with loading large machines horizontally. The game will run faster either way.
How's this one?
I personally haven't experienced it either; I did not post this. Exalm did, and you can find his comment here.
I think that although there would be fewer blocks, there would be more chunks; the internal server already handles chunks slowly. I don't see any logic in this either; I'm just mentioning someone's insight.
Oh whoops! I can fix that; what should the dimensions be?
Is 700x100 good?
Yes.

Curse Premium1. I'm almost always lagging even on just normal with fast graphics.
2. xray + this = Yeah no cheaters!
3.infinite height?
OH YEAH!
Support
Nope.
Check out the server I play on, timgaming.com. (website and ip)
I don't really understand why they didn't go with this sort of system in the first place. The ability to generate biomes in 3d as well as having "skylands" and other features is simply too good to pass up. This system literally changes the world of minecraft.
